All New Englanders have a special place in their hearts for the old, dilapidated covered bridge of their youth. Maybe you rumbled over one every day riding shotgun in the family’s rusted-out pickup truck, or maybe one stands out from some rustic vacation largely long-since forgotten. No matter the case, they remain a symbol of nostalgia and youthful exuberance, a figurative bridge to another time.

For the traditionalist, the sentimental at heart, we offer Robust Porter, our take on a style of beer that, like these bridges, has remained impervious to trends, stalwart in the face of change. One gulp and you’ll be teleported to a simpler time. To that, all we can say is, Cheers

355 ml bottle @ Patricks. Very dark brown, almost black body with a big, foamy beige head. Aroma is strong dark chocolate, malt, coffee and fruity hops. Very promising aroma, and the flavor deliver as expected as well. Dominating, rich chocolate flavor with moderate roasted malt, coffee and hops. Well-made, delicious and tasty, quite impressive at less than 6% ABV.

Purchased at Archer Liquors in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on New Years Eve day during a warm winter Chicago rainy day. Appearance is an oil black with a large, frothy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and hops, not really apparent but also not faint. Taste features huge chocolate and coffee notes, creamier than a lot of stouts I’ve had, very much roasty and delicious. Very much recommended.

Very dark for the abv. Some dark ruby brown highlights show up when held to the light. Big head of craggy foam. Khaki-colored. The aroma is quite weak compared to the taste. There’s some dark chocolate, but it also gets a touch of cola. Mostly just sugary malt. Huge coffee and dark chocolate flavors in the taste. Lots of roast. Less harsh than I’d expect - the mouthfeel helps there. Mildly sweet cocoa finish. It packs a ton of flavor. Marvelously thick and creamy. A pillow of roasted malt. This beer drinks much bigger than it is, almost to the point of tiring my palate. It’s good, but it would be a bit much to drink for an entire night.

Cask at GBBF 2010. A deep brown/black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Roasty aroma. Tastes roasty, malty, sweet, coffee, chocolate, slight sourness. Decent rich tasting porter from a quality brewery.

1 year old bottle. Big and flavorful, with chocolate, some coffee, and a fruity, sour edge with blackberries. Smooth and creamy, not too heavy. An excellent porter.
