Bottle from Biernavigatie. Aroma is floral hops, malt, yeast, fruity notes with citrus, touch of lemon, mild grass, very strong floral and a bit perfumed with a very slight herbal touch. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and medium bitter. Comes with a hint of alcohol. Body is medium. Very enjoyable hoppy Belgian Ale.

330ml bottle. Slightly milky, orangey golden colour with average to huge, sudsy, homogeneous, moderately lasting and lacing, white head. Slightly weak, sweet-ish, muesli aroma, hints of dried fruit, oat flakes, green and yellow apple. Taste is sweet-ish malty and yeasty fruity, muesli character again, hints of oat flakes and other cereals, dried fruit, fresh green and yellow apple; alcohol has a minimally warming effect in the finish but is well balanced by a fruit acidic touch. Smooth and soft palate, gentle but effective carbonation.

Bottle @ Poechenellekelder, Brussels. Back on track, after having tasted the 15 which was nothing but old dusty hops I was sceptic to try this again although I love many of the previous years. Pours hazy golden with a large frothy head. Slight peppery and yeasty herbal nose and flavor with a good deal of fresh grassy and citrussy hops. Ends dry and bitter. Harmonic. Really dope.

(swing top bottle, 33cl) Hazy, pale golden colour with a big and blond, slowly lacing foamy head. Fruity hoppy aroma with notes of citrus and grapefruit, accompanied by mildly malty notes and a distinctively phenolic and slightly soapy yeast character. Mildy bitter, delicately sweet and tart flavour, medium to full bodied with a moderate carbonation. Yeasty mildly malty base with notes of white bread, also present citric and delicately grassy hops, lingering into the moderately dry andmildly hop bitter finish with a lasting citric tail and a well-covered alcoholic strength. Okay but too much yeasty for my taste. 14.VIII.17

Draught @ Taphuys, Tilburg. Shared with Ferris. Clear yellow color, full sized white head that lasts for a long time. Smell and taste malts, wheat, lightly herbs or spices, fairly yeasty. Average body, soft carbonation.

Stumbled on this new rendition of Hopus Primeur in a pub in Ghent. Very thick and frothy, inches high, foamy, egg-white head leaving nice cobweb lacing around the edge, sitting on top of a lightly hazy straw blonde beer with greenish tinge and fierce sparkling sustaining the pillowy head. Aroma of soap, grass, straw, banana and even light bubblegum, hard pear, dried field flowers, white celery, white bread and a vague whiff of DMS but nothing too offensive; old-fashioned noble hops elegantly crown an otherwise typical Belgian tripel nose. Crisp, fruity onset, very sharply carbonated and strongly numbing, adding a sourish touch to an otherwise moderately sweetish flavor of banana ester, pear and some pineapple; soapy mouthfeel, full grainy and lightly ’white’ bready malt sweetish middle. Ends malty but well-soaked in a grassy, very floral and mildly spicy ’noble’ hop bitterness, a bit quinine-like in the end and adequately bittering with that celery hint lingering alongside some vaguely warming, but otherwise well-hidden alcohol. Thoroughly Belgian even if ’hop forward’, not fundamentally different from previous editions with that same soapy quality and banana ester, but seemingly a tad hoppier and more floral, so in that sense a slight improvement compared with last year’s Primeur as far as I’m concerned.
