Black Bird is our collaboration with London-based Anspach & Hobday, a young brewery that is reviving classic styles while keeping them as simple & elegant as possible. A black rye season brewed with rye to bring a dry and spicy mouthfeel reminding of british bitters.

Tap at BBP Tokyo. Not so exciting as you'd expect from Anspach. Light dark fruitiness In Aroma. Taste is less interesting, feels a bit flat, don't get the rye, or the saison really. It's alright but not so interesting. Cola, black cherry maybe.

Bottle at Hair of the Dog, Phrom Phong, Bangkok. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy, short lived light tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, smoky charcoal. The flavour is light liquorice bitter with a dry roasty, smoky malt, yeast, floral, liquorice, hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Really quite disappointed with this. A "saison" ? No way. Way too light and lacking any defining flavours. This was mildly infected too. This is a super expensive beer in Bangkok and I expect better than this.

Bottle in garden, 17th June 17. Pours a black beer with a frothy head. Aroma is malty, yeast, cocoa. Taste is watery, malt, cocoa, slight bitter, liquorice. A bit messy and strange, but drinkable.

Tap at Shinjuku. Black with a pretty head. Very spicy nose, lots of rye, saison yeast spiciness, chocolate, some coffee and caramel. Dry and spicy, bit funky, chocolate, coffee. Light and dry. Decent but the nose is best.

Bottle from the dregs run, cheers Craig. Hazy dark brown with no head. Light spice and dense dark bread on the aroma. Taste is dry cocoa, light white pepper. Clean finish.
