Westmalle Extra is the table beer served to the monks and their guests and is brewed with water, barley malt and hop cones. The Westmalle Dubbel and Tripel yeast is also used for this beer. Westmalle Extra is also top-fermented but it is considerably lighter, at 4.8%, alcohol-by-volume than its brother brews. It has the characteristic Westmalle aroma with hops coming through in the finish. It is a real thirst-quencher.

330ml bottle: BBD 3 Dec 15. Shared between four at the 28 April 15 Shrewsbury Bottle Exchange Group meeting. Cheers Mat for bringing this and not having any yourself. Hazy yellow pour with a white topping. Semi-sour feel to the brew with a slight honey note in the aroma. Not what I expected at all to be honest: but pleased to have tried it.

Bottle. Pours crystal clear pale golden, small white head, dissipates fairly quickly, good lacing. Aroma is faint overall, notes of grass, grain, hay, and honey. Flavor is light sweet, light bitter, floral and herbal. Light body, high carbonation. Easy to drink.

330 ml bottle from Belgium in a Box. Pours bright hazy yellow with a pillowy white head. Nose is lemony, yeasty, citrusy. Taste is the same, with a slight tartness and some dry herbs on the end. Light and airy on the palate. More of a quaffer than a savourer.

0,33l bottle, best before 21/5/2016. Clear, pale golden yellow with a frothy, stable, white head. Spicy, sourish aroma of cloves, lemon, green apples and white grapes. Nice, spicy taste of banana, cloves and yeast. Hints of grass as well. Short, just slightly bitter finish. Medium body, very creamy and smooth mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Very solid trappist brew with that distinct yeasty smoothness. Liked it!

A light yellow beer with a big and white head. The nose is aromatic and quite unique, lemon, lots of flowers, apples and apple cider. Taste has lot of apples, grain, nice spicyness with some coriander. No change with yeast. Medium bodied, smooth and strong carbonation. Strong apples, fresh and good, light trappist.
