A light yellow beer with a big and white head. The nose is aromatic and quite unique, lemon, lots of flowers, apples and apple cider. Taste has lot of apples, grain, nice spicyness with some coriander. No change with yeast. Medium bodied, smooth and strong carbonation. Strong apples, fresh and good, light trappist.

Hazy pale golden colour, thick creamy stable white head, recedes only slowly but thick layer remains, good lacing. Aroma pale malt, yeast, fruity (peach, banana), citrus. Taste medium bitter, light sweet; medium body, oily to watery texture, average carbonation. Finish lingering dry bitter, herbal notes. Very pleasant.

The ’refterbier’ or ’enkel’ from the Westmalle monks, made for their own use inside the abbey and only sold to the outside world in very limited quantities and only on Fridays; used to lack a label and had all the information only on the cap, like the Westvleteren ales, but since the limited sales at the abbey have begun, a beige label has been added. Loose but stable, off-white head, peach blonde colour perhaps a tad lighter than the tripel, cloudy with deposit. Fruity and malty aroma of pear, red apple, pineapple, grains, mild herbal hoppiness, yeast; fruity taste, light sweetishness, soft and fluffy, bready maltiness in the middle, a bit grainy, thinnish body, soft herbal hop bitterness in the finish, long. Everyone I know who tasted this, comes to the same conclusion: this is a great session blonde, a kind of ’little’ version of the great Tripel as it were, with a whole lot of taste and character for a beer of only 4% ABV. It’s a shame this isn’t commercialized more broadly...

330ml bottle from Belgian Beer Factory. Pours hazy gold with a patch of bubbly creamy head in the middle of the glass. Taste is nicely sweet sessionable Belgian blond with a hint of spice and light fruitiness. Has a familiar Westmalle yeastiness to it.

330 ml bottle at home, thanks Jan! Almost hazy, pale yellow color with nice white head. Light hoppy aroma, little bit floral. Light sweet and hoppy fruity bitter taste. Light body, oily feel, average carbonation, dry bitter finish.

Small offwhite head. Hazy pale yellow body with carbonation. Fruity mealy floral aroma with herbal notes. Very delicate and elegant. Dry mealy boiled water taste with fruity floral notes. Light body. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Dry mealy floral herbal aftertaste with fruity notes. Lovely aroma with slightly sharp hop character at the very end. (0.33l bottle shared by Morten R.)
