Westmalle Extra is the table beer served to the monks and their guests and is brewed with water, barley malt and hop cones. The Westmalle Dubbel and Tripel yeast is also used for this beer. Westmalle Extra is also top-fermented but it is considerably lighter, at 4.8%, alcohol-by-volume than its brother brews. It has the characteristic Westmalle aroma with hops coming through in the finish. It is a real thirst-quencher.

Bottle from fonefan, many thanks!

330ml bottle. Next to clear, golden body. Firm white head, laces well. Fruity smell of pear and lemon, mid-dry. Dusty hops, pear and sweet citrus followed by a little tart basement touch to the finish. Feels a bit thin in the mouth and on the swallow. Okay without further excitements (thanks to Yngwie, shared with other ratebeerians at Cunningham’s place, Halden 14.02.2014).

BOTTLE 33CL.

Look: bright golden and hazy with an off-white, medium, creamy-to-frothy head with good retention.

Aroma: fruity, citrus/sweet tangerine, perfume, some spicy and astringent acidity, spicy coriander-like.

Taste: dry, spicy, grassy and spicy hops, light bitterness.

A great table beer.

Frisch-hopfiger Geruch, leicht süßlich-hefig.

Bottle at home, thanks to an IP trade with Jan, 17/11/13. Almost clear light golden, carbonation evident and with a billowing white head of frothy bubbleage. Nose is yeast, herbal, lemon rind, light spice, grain, fain toffee. Taste comprises, grain, earthy tones, damp straw, light citrics, apple skin, walnut, touch of yeast. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry grassy finish. Ok/average Belgian offering, ticked it, won’t return to it!.

From bottle at a tasting at Bar & Cigar. Slightly hazy pale golden with a white head. Mild fruity aroma with notes of Belgian yeast, malt and almonds. Light to medium body with slightly soft carbonation. Fairly mild in flavour, but not weak. Refreshing and easy drinkable. Far bettet than a pale lager.
