Westmalle Extra is the table beer served to the monks and their guests and is brewed with water, barley malt and hop cones. The Westmalle Dubbel and Tripel yeast is also used for this beer. Westmalle Extra is also top-fermented but it is considerably lighter, at 4.8%, alcohol-by-volume than its brother brews. It has the characteristic Westmalle aroma with hops coming through in the finish. It is a real thirst-quencher.
De goudblonde Extra wordt slechts tweemaal per jaar gebrouwen en is alleen bedoeld voor intern gebruik. Dit bier drinken de monniken en hun gasten immers enkel bij het middagmaal. Typisch voor de Extra is dat hij alleen met water, gerstemout en hopbellen wordt gebrouwen. Hij deelt zijn gist met de Dubbel en Tripel en is dus ook een bier van hoge gisting, al bevat hij maar 4,8% alcohol. Het aroma is typisch Westmalle en het hoppige karakter zorgt voor een dorstlessende droge afdronk.

bottiglia 33 cl, schiuma bianca fine pannosa persistente, colore giallo smorto velato, al naso è speziata chiodi di garofano cereali scorza d’arancio leggero banana, in bocca cereali spezie agrumi, corpo leggero, carbonazione forte, dolce con amaro leggero, secca nel finale. Molto buona leggera e super dissetante. Qualità Westmalle. c. Cantina della birra 01.04.22

Flesje gekocht bij Mitra. Bleek geel, helder bier met een dunne witte schuimkraag. Aroma is moutig. Smaak is moutig en waterig. Nasmaak is bitter.

Schönes Fläschchen, heftige Carbo erzeugt derben Schaum, toll anzusehen. In der Nase recht unscheinbar, hefig. Im Trunk Getreide, leicht zitronig, feinbitter, passt.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 4.8%. Pale golden colour, vigorously carbonated, large white head. Pleasant aroma of Trappist yeast, yellow fruits and mild spices. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour has the same elements as the aroma, with surprisingly distinct bittering hops in the aftertaste.

Bottle at Huis, Southsea, served in the correct glass. Yellowy-gold with a white head, a thin body, and an aggressive prickly fizz. Tastes of light lemon, a little white pepper, and a mild bitterness. It is - dare I say this of a Trappist ale - a little bland. And the fizz is too strong. I'm not a fan of this one.

Appearance: Somewhat fogged, golden, good white head. Aroma: pedigree yeast, malt, fruity notes. Taste: rather dry, pure, light to medium hop bitterness. Pedigree yeast, malt, fruity notes, grassy hop. Mouth feel: Medium body, appropriate carbonation. Summary: Good.

Bottle from Corks of Cotham, Bristol. Golden in colour with a tight, white, head and plenty of carbonation. Bittering hops throughout, some stone fruits and strawberries, a touch of herbs and some candy sugar, leading to a gently bitter finish. Good.
