Introducing Numero Uno Summer Cerveza, our just-released summer seasonal that begs for warm temps and long nights. Originally released as Agave Cerveza in the summer of 2014 as part of our Brewhouse Rarities program, it’s the artisanal answer to the easy-drinking, south-of-the-border slammers the younger versions of ourselves knew and loved.
Flaked maize makes up one third of the malt bill and highlights the distinctive corn and cracker flavor traditionally found in Mexican lagers. Agave is added at the end of the boil and the lime peel post-fermentation to impart a distinct, zesty character and a crisp, clean finish. Your new Summer Cerveza clocks in at 4.9% ABV.

Bottle shared at Mother Kelky’s - thanks to Ian. Pours clear gold with a creamy white head. The nose has lots of floral notes, pale bread, grassy medium sweet flavor with some dry pale bread, honey, floral hops, slight grains. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Nicely balanced finish, more flowers, pale bread, hay, biscuits, and citrus rind. Good one.

Bottle at home. Pours clear golden, nose is light lime, dull toffee, taste is quite bland, dull toffee, maybe some lime in there.

355ml bottle. Pours pale gold with a medium head. Aroma is crackers, corn and a little lime. Taste has lime jelly to start. Dry cracker finish. Simple and drinkable.

12 oz bottle poured into a Flying Dog goblet. Bottle best by date code 302A14, so bottled on 6/11/2014. Clear straw yellow with 2.5 fingers of off-white head that fades fairly quickly. Nice head retention with half a finger left. Aromas of lime, corn and wheat. Tastes of lime, corn, sweet syrup, subtle herbal notes. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Medium carbonation. Light mouthfeel. Fine and inoffensive, like a better tasting Corona I guess. Was hoping it’d be more creative for a brewhouse rarity.

Keg at the flying dog tap takeover at the rake. Aroma is sharp lime, kaffir lime, crisp grains. Dull yellow straw colour with a short lived thin white head. Slight haze. Flavour is crisp pils grains, sharp lime citrus and corn adjuncts. Nice refreshing dry finish. Clean lager ferment. Light palate, highish carbonation. Slight green apple in the finish. Tasty enough.
