Bottle [from Secret Santa 2014, thanks to beerandblues2] @ home. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized brown head that diminishes quickly. Aroma is malts, dark malts, lovely soft bourbon and some dark fruits. Taste is intense: moderate to heavy malty, huge bourbon, slightly vanilla, lightly alcohol, dark malts, initially slightly sweet, but a quite bitter finish. Medium to full body, oily texture, medium carbonation. Great beer!

First off, this was a huge bonus sent my way by JohnGalt1, straight off my want list. Super stoked to get to try this, many thanks. Bottle, 2012 release: Pours a very dark brown, near black and is topped with a thick finger of brown head that quickly dies back. As soon as I popped the cap, the aroma permeates the room. It is hugely sweet, dark fruits and molasses, with a healthy amount of influence from the bourbon barrels. Taste is sweeter than expected, but consistent with the nose. Molasses, dark fruits, and bourbon barrel. Some chocolate. I can sense the high ABV, but it’s well hidden. Silky smooth and a great finish… warms the lips. The only detriment is the all-encompassing sweetness, at least for my taste.

Refrigerated 12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter. Coal black with small light brown head. Aroma is sweet bourbon, thick body, low carbonation, and very little lacing. Taste is big sweet bourbon, some herbal hops, some alcohol, and slightly bitter finish.

Bottle shared at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. 2014 bottle, 14.83%. Black with a nice brown head. Lovely aroma of bourbon, wood, lots of dark chocolate, cocoa, roast and some vanilla. Sweet flavor with chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, wood, a fruity note and a slightly boozy finish. Great full thick mouthfeel.

Definitely a keeper, too bad it’s so damn expensive. Lots of bitter dark chocolate. Finishes with lots of bitterness. Booze well hidden. Lots of roast and caramel. Tap at Snallygaster.

Bottle from a trade. Many thanks artmcd8! Shared with tderoeck and Erwin. Oily black colour, brown foam. Soft carbonation. Light roasted aroma with lots of bourbon and vanilla. Full body. Sweet with very light bitterness. Good but I like stouts more on the bitter side.

Courtesy of Kraddel. Thanks! 355 ml. bottle split by 2 @ Barely legal tasting room. This version was bottled on 27/06/2013. ABV 16.13 %. Pours lighter black with a surprisingly bit dark chocolate mouse, the head does sinks reasonably fast but does remain longer than expected. Nose is quite boozy, liquorish, syrupy, surprisingly no chocolate here, molasses and almost straight up alcohol. Tastes heavily on the alcoholic side with thick liquorish, molasses, herbs, brown sugar, harsh, chunk of alcoholic cheaper bourbon, roast. Syrupy body. This makes me think of Black Tuesday. Quite a fun beer but also bit of an unbalanced alcoholic mess. Bit surprised that this in the top 50 of RIS, in this case I do really think that the high ABV is partially responsible for that.
