Bottle at Fresh Craft, Denver. Wow, this was good! Poured a deep mahogany with a rich oily consistency and a thick frothy tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt and boozy alcohol. The flavour is strong bitter with a big malt liqourice cream toffee caramel alcoholic palate. For the ABV, the alcohol didn’t dominate. A real classic. One of the best imperial stouts I’ve ever had!

Bottle shared at Freshcraft Denver with iphonephan and jmgreenuk. Pours near black with a brown ring head. Aroma is super sweet and boozy before even lifting the glass from the table. Closer up there’s bourbon/vanilla along with rich chocolate, soft roast, molasses, toffee and fudge. Flavour is heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Thick syrupy and sticky mouthfeel. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Nice brew!

12oz bottle pours a very viscous, opaque, oily black with some cloudy, beige head. Nose has a ton of molasses, burnt wood, light vanilla bean, coconut meat, malt, Kahlua, dark chocolate, a little soy. Slick in the mouth, the flavor is sweet, boozy, Kahlua, soy, almost a little salty fish sauce, dark chocolate, burnt coffee bean, toasted wood, coconut meat, cherry cordial. Full, sticky finish. This could have been a mess, but it wasn’t. Smooth with lots of complexity.

Bottle - batch #1 - thanks newcigarz! Pours opaque black with a small deep brown head that dissipates fairly quickly with a bit of lacing. Aroma is surprisingly light - notes of bourbon, chocolate, deep roasted malts, wood, dates. Flavor is medium sweet and light bitter with strong bourbon notes and a touch of licorice. Light astringence is apparent from the time spent in wood. Full body, creamy mouthfeel and strongly warming, not surprising given the ABV. This is a nice beer. Cant wait to try B2!

Bottle - Chocolate cookies, bourbon, vanilla, caramel and a bit of alcohol. Jet black with a rich brown head. Licorice , dark roasted coffee, dark malts and bourbon alcohol. This beer smells divine, looks divine, but has an edge to it that I think needs a bit of mellowing. Still a great, beer, can’t wait to try it with a bit of age.

355 ml bottle received in trade. Thank you Aaron! Pours viscous pitch black with a thin dark mocha head that quickly dissipates without leaving any trace on the glass. Smell is sweet with roasted malts, bourbon, vanilla fudge, high quality dark chocolate, alcohol, charred wood, toffee, burnt caramel, coconut, sweetened dark roast coffee, cookies, fresh oak and hints of hay and moist soil. Taste is sweet, bitter and salty with heavily roasted malts, soy sauce, bourbon, salty liquorice, raisins in rum, burnt cookies, dark roast coffee, sweet dark bread, vanilla fudge, coconut, alcohol, fresh oak, caramel, prunes, dark chocolate, burnt sugar, orange zest and molasses. Mouthfeel is round, sticky sweet, soft, boozy and full bodied. Finish is sweet, bitter and salty with roasted malts, dark chocolate, vanilla fudge, bourbon, charred wood, burnt raisins and hints of coconut milk. Unbalanced and a bit too salty but still quite nice.

12 oz bottle with a date of Mar 27, 2012. Nothing like a BA stout at noon! Snifter displays thick oily, black with brown around the edges. Aroma is totally rich bourbon. Flavor is heavy woody bourbon, dark fruits, cherry notes. Strong and heavy whiskey notes. Also a light coffee bitterness. Body is full with a heavy texture that coats the inside of your mouth. The alcohol presence is known but not terrible for 17%. Overall I say if you really like bourbon, you will really enjoy this stout.

Bottle shared at CBC - Clerkenwell, London. Many thanks to Seth for sharing! Pours oily black with a creamy, tan head. Aroma holds alcohol, dark malts, roasted malts, burnt toast, rich chocolate. Big sweet flavor with robust bittersweet chocolate, moderate roast, a bit of alcohol punch, brown bread. Full bodied with fine carbonation and a chewy mouthfeel. Warm finish with oily chocolate, dirt, brownies, raisins, decent roast, rich chocolate cake. Awesome. Great depth. A hell of a beer.

Aroma has a medium amount of alcohol but it integrates nicely with the chocolate and roast. The roasted malt notes have some meat and coffee character. Pours black with a faint mocha head that persists as a thin film on the edges. Flavor has lots of dark chocolate and bitter chocolate notes. Roast has a nice quality to it, light smoked meats and coffee. Some molasses and a spicy alcohol note. A bit of a bourbon note but not much vanilla. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium low carbonation. Medium high alcohol heat. Low astringency, almost non existent. Not super sweet. Overall, a very enjoyable stout but a touch hot.
