This is a pale lager, brewed to a sessionable 4.2% ABV, and featuring beechwood smoked malt from Weyermann in Bamberg. This beer is absolutely fabulous as a thirst quencher while you’re standing over the BBQ, and reaches new levels of enjoyment when you pair it with food.
Just to make sure we were doing it right, we went back for a week to Bamberg, visiting our friends, favourite breweries, and of course, the Weyermann maltings. We’re very happy to report that all systems are definitely go. When you bring a lager to Germany and celebrated brewmasters are enthusing about how good your beer is - and especially your head retention - well, that’s validation enough for us!

Tap. Unclear golden color with white head. Aroma is ham, wet dog, mild herbal hops. Taste is ham smoke, nice pale malt sweetness, some herbal hops. Chewy mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Not bad!

Sampled at Borefts 2019. Almost clear golden with white head. Smoke, bacon, dry sweet malts, light herbal, ash, soft herbal. Almost medium sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with crisp feel. Yeah, it’s a smoked lager!

Can at the brewery tap, Bristol 29/8/2019. Deep gold in colour, with a tight, white, head and slight haze. Great smokey nose, with a suggestion of fatty bacon, solid hopping, some sweetness and a moderately bitter finish. A good smoked beer.

On tap at the brewery Bermondsey gold colour lasting white head. smoked cheese aroma. smoke in mouth. and it is smoked cheese. like that Austrian smoked cheese you get in brown plastic. I do like a smoked lager. this works well. some lager character some bitterness on the finish. I do like the smoke.
