“Green Walnut” is a surprising and innovative Lambic beer of Oud Beersel. For the production of the Green Walnut real fruit is used, in the same way as for the Oude Kriek of Oud Beersel.
In July the still green walnuts are gathered in the Oud Beersel orchard and are added to the Lambic beer that matured in wooden wine barrels.
After the bottle fermentation this sparkling walnut Lambic of Oud Beersel is called Green Walnut, which is a strong companion for blue-veined cheese, dried ham and salads with nuts.
The green walnuts macerate in the Lambic beer enabling them to unfold their taste and flavour. The initial bitterness which is extracted from the walnuts is tempered during the ripening of the walnut Lambic. This results in a delicate balance between the light sourness of the Lambic beer and the bitterness of the green walnuts. The wooden wine barrels provide a subtle touch of red fruits to the beer.

[ As Oud Beersel Green Walnut ].Unclear - hazy medium orange yellow color with a average, open and frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy learther, funky, earthy, nutty - earthy, sour apple, herbal funk. Flavor is moderate sweet and light acidic with a long duration, tart, fruity yeast, funky, walnut, apple - citric, herbal funk, light metalic hops. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20160514]

2015 Edition from Rudat. Extreme gusher. In the glass only foam. Earthy sourish nose with lots of horse blanket. The beer starts sourish round, lots of citrus and horse-blanket. Rough but very great! There is another aroma behind the lambic, which is hard to get. I guess the green walnut: earthy, hints of nuts probably, interesting dark. The aftertaste is round and refreshing, nice mixture between that earthy aroma and the sourish rough horse blanket. Great!

Bottle - Funky petroleum typical good gueuze notes with a touch of fruit. Cloudy gold with a small white head. Light fruit funk with some tartness. Much more mellow than the nose eludes too.

Bottle kindly shared by O, many thanks! Bright, hazy orange with small, white head. Juicy aroma and taste with herbal, earthy notes similar to regular geuzues. Light barnyard funk. Overall very nice one. Dry finish.
