“Green Walnut” is a surprising and innovative Lambic beer of Oud Beersel. For the production of the Green Walnut real fruit is used, in the same way as for the Oude Kriek of Oud Beersel.

In July the still green walnuts are gathered in the Oud Beersel orchard and are added to the Lambic beer that matured in wooden wine barrels.

After the bottle fermentation this sparkling walnut Lambic of Oud Beersel is called Green Walnut, which is a strong companion for blue-veined cheese, dried ham and salads with nuts.

The green walnuts macerate in the Lambic beer enabling them to unfold their taste and flavour. The initial bitterness which is extracted from the walnuts is tempered during the ripening of the walnut Lambic. This results in a delicate balance between the light sourness of the Lambic beer and the bitterness of the green walnuts. The wooden wine barrels provide a subtle touch of red fruits to the beer.

Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is golden. Aroma and taste are brett, leather, fruits, lactose acid and has a nice sour finish.

Shared from bottle at kermis’s. Massive thanks to Maakun. Hazy amber with no head. Sweaty funky and light metallic horseblanket. Cyberpunk almond spice. Grape fruity. Deep horse funk. Moderate sweet, moderate sour. Medium body, mineral qualities. Lovely.

Bottle shared. Almost clear dark golden with very small white head. Light funk, apricot, hay, soft honey, sweet grains, green leaves, peach. There’s some fruit but not something I’d recognize as green walnut. Under medium sweet and sour, light bitter. Just medium bodied. Quite nice.

Relativt stiltypisk lambik. Gott!

Hazy, light amber. There’s brett and barnyard...a mellow lambic. Mellow tartness, a nice clean sweet character. Touch of barrel. I am not familiar with green walnut so maybe I don’t know what I’m looking for but this does seem not to have much of it.

750mL bottle, sent from yourilevesque (thanks a lot, Youri), pours a hazy copper with a small white head. Aroma brings out notes of balsamic, subdued unripe walnuts, barnyard notes, and light citric. Flavour is unusual, with lots of balsamic vinegar, unripe nuttiness, light-medium barnyard notes and citric notes. Finishes with citric, lightly balsamic and light funky notes. Not very complex and rather underwhelming for the style, but it's solid.

Flaska från Etre Gourmet drucken med ölföreningen. Relativt stiltypisk lambik. Tydlig lätt acetisk syra, gröna äpplen, citrus, lite fat och en aning valnöt som ger en liten fin tvist åt smakbilden.

Bottle (thanks whoever shared it!). Pours yellow with greenish hue and with whiteish head. Aroma is fruit, vinegar, lemon, slight nuts. Flavor is sour, vinegar, lemon, acidic. Finish has hints of nuts and vinegar. Overall: ok.
