“Green Walnut” is a surprising and innovative Lambic beer of Oud Beersel. For the production of the Green Walnut real fruit is used, in the same way as for the Oude Kriek of Oud Beersel.
In July the still green walnuts are gathered in the Oud Beersel orchard and are added to the Lambic beer that matured in wooden wine barrels.
After the bottle fermentation this sparkling walnut Lambic of Oud Beersel is called Green Walnut, which is a strong companion for blue-veined cheese, dried ham and salads with nuts.
The green walnuts macerate in the Lambic beer enabling them to unfold their taste and flavour. The initial bitterness which is extracted from the walnuts is tempered during the ripening of the walnut Lambic. This results in a delicate balance between the light sourness of the Lambic beer and the bitterness of the green walnuts. The wooden wine barrels provide a subtle touch of red fruits to the beer.

Bottle - Samobor tasting - thanks Bazz! Full, full apricot-amber body, white head. Very full aroma, funky, hay, honey, light light light green walnut touch. Well carbonated taste, mild tartness subdued yet tasty, funky, drinkable. Vague vague vague walnut, mainly apparently if the yeast shot is introduced. A fantastically well balanced, tasty lambic.

75cl bottle from Chez Sophie. Misty gold pour, exuberant white head. Aroma has familiar lambic flora, soft zest with a fruity premonition. Taste is similar in character, with a thin, almost spritzy natural carbonation, good breezy zesty fruity, lemon, citric, white grape with soft mellow lambic funk. No discernible walnut presence, unfortunately, but it's a great lambic all the same.

750mL 2016 bottle drunk 9/20/17.
A bit dreggy, unfortunately, as I got the tale-end of the bottle. Showing a yellow, copper-mauve body with no head.
Lemon-vanilla in the nose doesn't really divulge walnut and Brett seems to be the prominent factor here, adding more citrus, light leather and very mild band aid. Smells very much like their Oude Gueuze; soft and citrusy with honey and vanilla behind it. No flaw or alcohol noted.
Great maltiness in the flavor; I must say, it's been A LONG time since I've bothered to have an Oude Beersel; I should really get on that. Citrusy notes are well-homogenized with malt and the lactic acid provides a brace of sourness but no more, fading to nuttiness, lime and lightly juicy Brett. Really impressed by the maltiness, attenuation and strong Brett expression here with tight carbonation putting the finishing touches on the picture as a whole. Surprised and very impressed here.

Bottle thanks to Justin. Pours a murky yellow orange with medium off white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is strong funk, oak, citrus. Medium body, nice tartness, funky, apple skin, citrus, oak, walnuts, very good.

Bottled at Haket, Göteborg, on October 25, 2017.Hazy golden color, small white head. Acidic, a tad fruity scent. Acidic, sour, fruity taste and aftertaste. Fairly fizzy mouthfeel, no bitterness. Not overly complex, nice tough, but not special for me.7/3/7/3/14=3.4
