Our original California Kölsch is a rich golden brew, crafted with aromatic German hops and rounded out with a blend of American and Munich malts. While it's hopped like a lager, we ferment it like an ale to create a smooth, bright taste that has just a hint of fruit and spice. It's extremely drinkable, like a Kölsch should be. And complex, like a good craft beer demands.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a pale yellow color with a huge yellow white head that produced good lacing. The aroma was tangy, sour and bitter with a light floral and spicy hop element. The flavor was bitter, tart and tangy with light nutty malts crisp floral and vague fruity hops and a light yeasty undertone. Medium length finish. Medium body. Ok.

Tap at Rattle n Hum. Pours a mostly transparent yellow with a fizzy, white head. Lightly sweet aroma with some pale malts. Flavor holds some mild earthen malts and sweetness. There is a slight chemical character, which wasn’t too enticing. Pleasant, medium body with adequate carbonation. Overall it was decent.

(Bottle, Oliver Twist, Stockholm, 2 Mar 2010) Golden yellow colour, slightly hazy, with brief white head. Fruity, malty nose with peaches, citrus and hay. Fruity taste with notes of citrus, peaches and a gentle grassy bitterness in the finish. Light body, mainly dry. Refreshing and tasty.

Bottled@Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Deep golden colour, small white head. Aroma is fruits, some wood, saltwater, earthcellar and some herbal notes. Flavour is quite similar, but has a bunch of honeyish notes in it as well.

A pale ale thats a kolsch, eh? Pretty deeep yellow with no visible carbonation. Smell is clean. Initial taste is first pale ale then morphs to lagerlike with background fruit. Tho pale ale bitter at the beginning of each sip, it goes fruity lager eventually. Finish is somewhat bitter but its acceptable for a lager lover.

Overall Impression: This drinks nicely, its not bad, but not great, its just alright. You could certainly do worse, it makes for a pretty nice session beer.

Bottle. Malty sweet vegtable and cookies tasting base with a fresg american citrus hop touch in the finish. Kind of reminds me of the refreshing golden ales that Harviestoun produces. Nice american version of the Kölsch-style. Simple, elegant and unique.
