Our original California Kölsch is a rich golden brew, crafted with aromatic German hops and rounded out with a blend of American and Munich malts. While it's hopped like a lager, we ferment it like an ale to create a smooth, bright taste that has just a hint of fruit and spice. It's extremely drinkable, like a Kölsch should be. And complex, like a good craft beer demands.

Bottle at home bought from Brewdog online date on the bottle is 1/5/13. So the beer is past is best- thanks brewdog. Pale golden colour with a medium haze and a thin yellow head. Aroma is Grassy socks and more than a touch on skunk. Flavour is grassy, noble hop more skunk . Mid sweet caramel malt finish. Shame, I’m sure that it was a great beer when it was bottled.

355ml bottle. Clear golden amber colour, foam white head and aroma of grain, fruity & yeasty. Taste is malt with a sweetish fruity edge & grassy notes, through to a dry light bitter finish. Light to medium bodied, lively carbonation. Quite OK.

Bottle at JF’s, Brewdog Online, 07/03/13. Clear pale golden with a thin white head. Nose is pale malt, light citurs, grass, orange. Taste pretty much follows the nose, faint hops in the background. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, light bitterness in the finish. Pretty average fayre - not a great deal of flavour coming out of this one but easy drinking.

Il Covo, La Jolla bottle: Pours a golden colour with a white head. Aroma is grassy hops, along with some fruitiness. I was expecting an APA, so this was a big surprise to get a German-style ale. In any case, for what it was, it was fine. Nice bitterness throughout. Adequate body. Tasted straight up like it should for the style.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a slightly hazy light orange with about a finger of white head. Aroma is mostly grain with some light lemon zest. Taste is light sweet. Mostly grain with some light lemon. Light bodied with a slightly sticky texture. Lively carbonation but not much of a finish. Overall, not bad. Probably a great lawnmower beer.

Crystal clear pale gold beer. Good white head. Malty ninerally nose. Crispy palate turning softer. Lagerish malt, dry. A little tiny bit of hop orange citrus. Finishes with over dry lagerish malt. Not good.

Purchased at Bruisin’ Ales in Asheville, NC; enjoyed from the rooftop of my hotel on a hot summer day in Savannah, GA. Appearance a cloudy gold, light amber,rich frothy white head. Aroma is unique, light bit of citrus notes, touch of bready malt, something else that I can’t quite put my finger on, drinking out of a plastic cup which may have something to do with it. Taste is pretty good, moderate body for a pale ale, maybe a touch of lemon, very light bitterness going down, good for a hot day. Pretty good stuff.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy copper with large creamy white head leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is bready malt and wheat. Medium mouthfeel with a bitter fruit and wheat with bitter finish. Easy to drink a decent kolsch from Ballast Point.
