It’s rather ridiculous the melding of flavors that can be achieved by folding an incredible amount of boysenberries into a blend of our barrel-aged sour rye ale and bourbon barrel-aged anniversary ale. But Befuddlment does just that. This recreation of one of our favorite blends - a Hoarders Society exclusive release in 2014 - is a baffling, rich and balanced creation that showcases rich dark fruit, subtle funk, zesty jam, prominent oak and ribbons of caramel and toffee.

Bottle shared by Tony at the 2016 New Year’s Christmas Tree Bonfire. Pours dark reddish purple color with off white head. Funky, tart berry aroma with some oak. Similar flavors. Medium body with average carbonation.

Bottle - thanks Mayur! Pours cloudy reddish hazel, small beige head, decent lacing. Aroma is funky, oak, berries, dark sugars. Flavor is light plus tart, light funky, some sweetness but not overpowering, lots of toffee, tons of blue berry and boisenberry - wow. Medium body. Quite interesting.

750ml bottle thanks to Darrel. Pours out a purple like an old bruise on your arm with a pinkish head. Nose is berries vinegar pit fruit and vanilla. Taste is more of the berries raisins oak vanilla and the tart vinegar pucker. I hate when thay do a 10% plus sour they are always a mess. The lower abv bruery sours are very nice. Can’t say the same for this one.

The beer is a reddish magenta color. Fairly cloudy. Medium fizzy head, tan. The aroma has a good amount of berries. It’s fairly jammy. Mild sour note. Nice, restrained aromas. Mild funk, a little oak. Taste is jammy but well restrained. Kind of a surprise for a Bruery sour. Light to medium light sour. Lots of berries. Little bit of pucker. Light mouthfeel.

Poured from a bottle. Aroma has a nice boysenberry character without being jammy. Some other dark fruit notes of cherry and other berry with hints of citrus and tropical fruit. Light rye notes. Pours a hazy reddish purple with a bit of a brown hue. Moderately sized, thick, purplish tan head with decent retention as it recedes to the edges. Flavor has a nice medium light acidity. Moderate berry notes with hints of citrus and tropical fruit. Light rye notes and hints of alcohol. Acidity is nicely mellow and works well with the fruit. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a really surprising beer with great berry notes. Not nearly as harshly acidic as other Bruery beers so it works really well. The berry character is really nice and works well with the rye character. One of my favorite Bruery sours.

Sample at Denver Rare Beer Tasting VI on 10/03/2014. Pours a murky reddish-purple color with a medium pinkish-white head that diminishes steadily to a film. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of oak, funky fruit and malt. Full-bodied with flavors of berries, oak, caramel malt and vanilla. The finish is fruity with a tart berry aftertaste. Enjoyable beer all around.

Bottle thanks to Will. Pours a cloudy brown with medium off white head that lasts. The aroma is strong berry, oak, cherry skin. Medium mouthfeel with nice berries, rye, oak, light tartness, hides alcohol well, really enjoyed this.

Hoarders Society bottle enjoyed with some buddies in Nor-Cal. Split 4 ways in 5ounce taster glasses @ 50F.

A - Small cap wisp. 1 finger head. Fades slow. Beautiful color, just a dark purple. Really nice.

S - Nose is slightly tart with raspberry and cherry and a touch of pineapple

T - Taste. Well the finish is ultra tart. Start is sweet oaky bourbon and vanilla, middle the acidic tartness hits but it’s balanced with the boozy old ale. It’s interesting. Maybe too acidic

M - Mouthfeel is nice. Oily but full bodied

O - The longer this beer sat, the better it tasted. It’s not blowing minds but it is is a solid beer.
