Black pour with a tall, very dark head. Roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, a bit of earth, and some hot booze. Full bodied with a mostly smooth, but slightly carbonated body. Finishes slightly molasses sweet with a bit of bittersweet chocolate and booze. Pretty solid Impy stout.

Bottle from Happy’s Market, Ellensburg
Black color with generous brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, not too strong. Good body, lean, the mouthfeel is rather dry among Imperial Stouts; good flavor of roasted malt with a hint of dark chocolate, a bit more roasty and ashy in the final; good alcohol management.
Nothing impressive, but well balanced, bold, highly drinkable.

Bottle (06/2013): Very dark brown in color with a decent brown head. Sort of fizzy and fades out quick, leaving behind a thin beige ring. Nose is heavy in roast, but sweet. Molasses, anise, and burnt sugars come to mind. Translates well into the taste with a bit more emphasis on the sweet side than on the roast. Has some dark fruits and a light floral hop presence that really helps the finish from being noticeably cloying. Good stuff, a traditional ‘meat and potatoes’ example of the American RIS.

From the July 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured thick, black and oily with a large creamy dark brown head that left good lacing. The aroma was toasty malts, floral hops and faint notes of cocoa and anise. The flavor was creamy vanilla, anise, bitter malts, cocoa, floral hops and coffee. The finish was long, bitter and toasty with lingering coffee, cocoa and vanilla. Thick and oily body. Interesting.

Brown-dark beige head, over pitch-black beer. Dark chocolate, tar, mocha. Ashy flavour, bitter chocolate (very good chocolate, must be Belgian), sweetish-bitter, lightly smoked flavour. Very good, typical Imperian Stout.

Bottle thanks to Ben! Pours black with a yellowish brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of roasted malt with some earthy grain. Flavor is similar with roasted malts and earthy grains with a hint of coffee.

Another yummy brew sent to me from riversideAK. Bomber pours dark ruby red with mahogany like core and mocha head. The aroma is rich with caramel malts, a bit of spicy anise, malt balls and some sweet smelling dark fruity esters. The taste is just as rich with loads of roasted malts heading quickly into burnt malts and dark fruity esters. This is bold smoothness with yummy pulses of goodness as flavor harmony abounds in every direction.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours really black with a foamy/frothy 2 finger dark tan head. The aroma oscillates between chocolate, burnt malt and resin. Oscillates. Like they change as air goes through the nose. Got some smoke on it, I think. Full bodied. Flavor is strong. Seems like smoked chocolate with a lot of dark malt. It’s bitter, and seems hoppy, but the other flavors obscure the hop detail. Hey, it’s good to have lots of complex flavors. Finish is dark chocolate malt. With bitter. This one would go great in a barrel. Likely any barrel.

Bottle shared by LtDan. Pours with a thick black body and a deep brown head. Aroma is strongly alcoholic, with coffee, brown sugar and darker nuts (chestnuts or brazil nuts). Flavors are bitter, brown sugar, nutshells, cereal and "purple drink". Syrupy mouthfeel with a velvety texture.
