We use six different grains in the brewing of this dark masterpiece and balance the full palate with Oregon Willamette and Yakima Clusters hops. Like the legendary Irish stouts that inspired it, Black Fly Stout is rich, robust and a touch mysterious. The finest stout west of Galway Bay!

Cqsk at GBBF 25. Dark and glossy. Frothy foamy beige head. Aroma has chocolate and malts with a berry edge. Flavourwise we have coffee and charcoal bitterness with a light spur berry edge. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long dry astringent finish. Decent.

Draught @ the pub. Dark brown with creamy beige head, faint roasted malt aroma, low carbonation, bitter roasted malt taste, thin body, medium finish. A bit weak and watery for a stout.

Pours a near black from a tap. Aroma is mostly masked by the head. Why is everything brewed here so sweet? Okay beer.

On tap at the brewpub. Close to black in the glass, topped by a dense, two-finger beige head. The aroma is quite roasted, close to bonfire, with some chocolate and coffee grit. It’s dry on the palate, still it feels sort of milk stout sweet. Roasted bitterness, some hops, prunes and a good dash of burnt malts. Very smooth on the palate, medium body. Long burnt finish. Quite lovely. 151609

Reviewed from notes.
The appearance had a dark brown almost black colored body with a lumpy tan four finger head. The head begins to fade after a minute or two. The lacing is spotty lacing throughout.
The smell was coffee, with a hint of smoky chocolate. There is some light cinnamon and pepper.
The taste was bitter through the coffee and becomes balanced with some light milk chocolate.
On the palate, it sat at/about a medium, very smooth, no aftertaste, dry finish, some carbonation is felt on the tongue.
Overall, this is an excellent choice for an Irish Dry Stout, probably one of the better beers by Gritty’s.
