Keg at Craft Beer Co, Covent Garden, London. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Roasty, malty, chocolate, soy aroma. Tastes similar, roasty, malty, chocolate, really rich soy taste coming through. My first Brazilian beer and very interesting it was too.

310ml bottle. Jet black colour with small, thick, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, dark brown head. Chocolately, dark malty aroma, notes of chocolate cream, hints of treacle, a touch of coffee. Taste is sweet dark malty, notes of molasses, treacle, cane sugar, some warming alcohol; gooey texture. Heavy stuff.

Bottle from Saveur-Biere.fr. Pours black with a roasted malt aroma. Big flavoursome taste with some prominent coffee and welcome caramel. Very enjoyable this. Will keep an eye out for more from these guys.

A black beer, a head is small and dark brown. Aroma is powerfully, lots of salt liquirice, coffee, roastiness and pleasant sweetness, some fruits. Taste has strong coffee, roastiness and salt liquirice, the bitterness is drying the taste. Long end with coffee. Almost full bodied, low carbonation. Powerfully and intensive, the great beer.

Das Bier ist fast schwarz und hat eine sehr schöne bräunliche Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr schokoladig, reife Früchte, Vanille, alkoholisch, viele Malzbonbons. Geschmack süß schokoladig, sehr vollmundig, Vanille, Toffee, reife Früchte, Kaffe, alkoholisch, sehr harmonisch, einfach klasse!

The craft beer revolution apparently reached even Brazil nowadays, and this must be one of the best results so far. Very dark mahogany colour, lightly transparent around the edges but otherwise black, with a thin, creamy, deep yellowish tan head. Lovely aroma of espresso and coffee beans, fried bacon, fondant, molasses, vanilla, bayleaf, bourbon, leather, fresh paint. Soft, rounded onset of candied fruits, thick and oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation which fits this style best, sharp and very coffee-like roasted bitterness setting in very quickly and accompanying the whole palate - it almost feels as if coffee has effectively been added. Bitter chocolate and nutty, toasted malts are there too, and the finish has a confident peppery hop bitterness along with warming, bourbon-like, but in all quite well hidden alcohol for a beer of this strength; the coffee bitterness remains stuck to the tongue for a long time. Highly recommended if you’re into black bitter beers; I do fail to see how this is a porter rather than a stout, though, but I guess the difference between ’imperial porter’ and ’imperial stout’ is a matter of opinion nowadays, rather than a purely technical issue.
