It's summer, the sun is out and Half Mast is the perfect way to celebrate. An IPA with a quarter of the alcohol, but not lacking in the flavour, impact balance that you would expect from a Siren beer. This golden coloured IPA has a surprising malt base given it's strength, low bitterness, but it's popping with juicy mango and grapefruit. Truly the perfect summertime drink.

Thx! Sampled draft @ Tilquin English Beer Festival 2015. Hazy amber, creamy white. Nose is quite impressive, on par with a DIPA, huge fruity, pine resin, grapefruit, light exotic fruits. Taste & body are both dominated by yeast unfortunetly, creamy bready yeast, sugar, bitter grass,… Yeasty body, masking the rest a bit. Still not bad, nice. Good work still for the ABV, I have had a few better examples.

(Cask at Craft Beer Co Clerkenwell, London, 21 Apr 2015) Amber colour with foamy, off-white head. Fruity, slightly malty nose with citrus, black-currant and toffee. Malty, fruity taste with notes of treacle toffee, black-currant, grapefruit and a generous resiny bitterness in the finish. Light body, with a certain sweetness. Lots of taste for a 2.8 beer. Nice one.

On tap at What’s Brewing. A dense, two-finger high off-white head forms over an unclear orange-colored body. The aroma has citrus peel, pine cones and a malty touch. Quite a lot of pine cones actually, but overall a tad weak. It has a medium body fullness, it’s dry and softly carbonated, with a good bitterness. Lasting finish. A refreshing and easy drinkable beer that avoids the aroma and flavor of bread dough so many beers at this ABV has. 141101

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a clear golden with a lively white head. Fresh citrusy hops in the nose, perhaps a tad metallic. Thin-bodied - naturally - a little fruitiness but otherwise it’s all about the hops. Leaves a dry finish with the good aroma hops dominating. 150115

Bottle bought @ Hemköp Majorna. Pours tiny hazy orangish golden with a frothy offwhite head that leaves lots of sticky lacing and trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is fruity with bread, grapefruit juice, mango, moist grass, pine needles, minerals and lemon zest. Taste is bitter, grassy and tiny fruity with bread, grapefruit juice, mango, freshly cut grass, chives, pine needles, grapefruit pith, orange peal and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is soft, mealy, astringent and medium bodied. Finish is bitter with bread, grapefruit juice, freshly cut grass, chives, pine needles, grapefruit pith and lemon zest. For 2.8% it’s amazing and I suspect it turns even fruitier fresh. Impressive for what it is…
