Always on the lookout for the next thing they can throw in a barrel, our brewers actually looked no further than their own backyard for this release – literally. Inspired by the berries they remember first eating from the trees in their yards; this Bourbon County release is full of the dark, spicy, and pleasantly sweet flavors of mulberries, marionberries, and boysenberries. This trio of fruit nicely rounds out the spice and heat of the rye whiskey barrels in which they were aged, resulting in a smooth, jammy stout perfect for sipping on your back porch.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with OK retention and light lacing. Aroma of blackberry jam with light chocolate notes with some light whiskey notes is very interesting. Taste is a complex mix between sweet blackberry jam with some chocolate notes, some dry roasted malt with vanilla and light whiskey notes. Body is dense with smooth texture and good carbonation with alcohol really not that apparent. Maybe a little too much focus on the blackberry jam notes but a very nice beer nonetheless.

Bottle split at Bruce’s pad, big thanks to Scoopey, 28/11/14. Black with a decent tan covering that soon dissipates edgeward. Nose is rich maltskys, chocolate, woody resonance but not too intense a dose of bourbonics, dark red berry notes. Taste comprises chocolate, raspberry licks, dark maltings, spice, subtle bourbon, red berry linger. Full bodied, fine carbonation, sweet licks and lightly warming alcohol in the close. Soldi impydom.

Bottle shared by Adam, thanks! Black with a dark brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has sweet dark grains, toffee and sweet chocolate with roasted malts and whiskey underlying. Flavor combines dark grains, dark chocolate and dark berries with some booze backing.

Bottle share at Bruce’s pad. Big thanks to Paul. Almost opaque reddish brown beer, small tan head. Palate is light and has mild carbonation. Rich dark malts delivered lightly. Touch of dark malt cream. Warming mellow boozey whiskey. Touches of berry fruits and chocolate. Finishes smooth and a little spicy. Lovely.

Bottle via trade, shared at Bruces. It pours jet black with a small tan head. The nose is sweet, juicy, jammy berry, raspberry ripple, Swiss roll, roasty malt, vanilla and light cocoa. The taste is toasty, jammy, Swiss roll, lots of juicy berry, roasted malt, toast, salted caramel, earth, bourbon, wood and some warming alcohol with a roasty, fruity finish. Full body, moderate carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. Soooo fruity. Crazy drinkable stuff. As always bourbon count delivers.

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Paul. Pours black-brown with a creamy tan head. The aroma holds a lovely blend of chocolate and ripe berries, with understated roasted malts. Big sweet flavor, quite juicy, with lots of raspberry, strawberry, balanced chocolate, soft roast, light booze, touches of burnt wood. Full bodied with fine, almost spritzy carbonation, lightly warming to finish with sticky fruit sugars, dark malts, more chocolate, cherry, raspberry, blackberry. Some lingering alcohol heat. Exceedingly drinkable. Great stuff.

Bottle shared by kermis @ Kermis’ birthday party. Many thanks for sharing this one Chris! Big want for me. Opaque pitch black color, small dark brown head. Aroma is malts, huge barrel aging in there, liquor, sweetish alcoholic notes with some dried and overripe fruits. Taste malts, wood, liquor, lightly dried and overripe fruits again. A bit dry finish, thinner texture than I had expected, medium body and carbonation. If it was a little thicker I would have really loved it, now it’s ’just’ very nice.
