Always on the lookout for the next thing they can throw in a barrel, our brewers actually looked no further than their own backyard for this release – literally. Inspired by the berries they remember first eating from the trees in their yards; this Bourbon County release is full of the dark, spicy, and pleasantly sweet flavors of mulberries, marionberries, and boysenberries. This trio of fruit nicely rounds out the spice and heat of the rye whiskey barrels in which they were aged, resulting in a smooth, jammy stout perfect for sipping on your back porch.

Sample at GABF 10/03/2014, thanks to my sis for assistance with note-taking. Pitch black pour with a medium tan head that diminishes gradually. Patchy lacing. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla and fruit. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky vanilla, bourbon, chocolate and berries. The finish is boozy with a bourbon and sweet berry aftertaste. Very good all around.

Enjoyed at gabf 2014. It pours with a nice looking dark body that supports a light mocha colored head. The aroma offers up sweet malts, pine hops, spicy oak, some boozy rye like notes and then some chocolate in the background. The taste delivers smooth and delicious chocolate and burnt sugars and rolling into very nice nectar sweet berry like notes that just fit in oh so well. To midway more chocolate murmurs to the surface with a mild sense of booze and bourbon like notes. Wow, this is just delicious. Well off into the background nearing the finish I get a little bit of light barrel notes that seem vaguely vanilla and a bit of molasses. Oh my this is good and oh so well integrated and balanced.

Bottle during RBSG 2014 Grand Tasting at Schlafly Tap Room. Jet black with little tan head. Aromas of berries, coconut, vanilla, subtle whiskey. Tastes of big sweet berries, light coconut and vanilla, dark chocolate, some whiskey. Full body with a dry finish. Rye whiskey seems to be muted a bit by the berries.

650ml bottle from a trade, thanks CheapBeerBuzz! @ PBF IX

Bottled on 20 NOV 13 - Pours pitch black with a brown head. Aroma of roasty malts, berries, some wood, oak and rye. Taste is malty, roasty and woody with loads of berries, some rye and oaky notes. Finish is sweetish, roasty and woody with loads of berries and rye. Quite different from the regular Bourbon County Stout.

65 cl bottle @ PBF Ⅸ, bottled 20.11.2013 Thanks tiong!
Aroma feels heavy and sweet with malty tones, berries and some licorice. Flavour has woody tones, berries, some rasperry, vanilla and hints of licoriuce. Dry, somewhat leathery and woody; sweetness eats the drinkability here. Bourbon is present.
