Draft. A brown beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of malt, nuts, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, spices, nuts, and bread leading to a dry and slightly roasted finish. More like a doppelbock than a porter

Winter Beer 2012 - bottle from Half Time. Pours ruddy dark copper with some temporary beige smear. Aromas of dark fruit/treacle and light oak. Med body or better. It has the signature malt/oak flavors, heat is slightly noticeable, but the main thing is the way the treacle works with the oak. One wonders how oak is handled here, but the flavor is pretty nice, and the finishing dry oak astringency (despite the treacle) is quite good. An ale that is both beautiful and fairly tasty.

Bottle from Sainsbury?s. It pours deep brown with a medium off-white head. The nose is soft roasted malt, cocoa powder, dark fruit, treacle, wood and sweet liquorice. The taste is roasted malt, cocoa powder, wood, earth, cola, light sourness, caramel, treacle and some dark fruit with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Hides alcohol fairly well. Not bad.

330 ml bottle. Pours a clear mahogany with medium head. Aromas of oak and caramel. Pretty much the same flavors (heavier on new wood) plus a mellow subtle fruitiness. Quite nice but not porter.

Location: 11.2 oz clear bottle from Buy Rite, 12/23/12

Aroma: It has lots of oak, lots of boozy, and some caramel, but the wood seems to dominate
Appearance: This one pours a clear mahogany color with a fizzy beige colored head and light lace
Flavor: The flavor is full of wood, with some malts, vanilla, brown sugar, and a boozy undertone
Palate: The body is medium-plus, it has some creaminess, some dryness, and a boozy finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a pretty interesting one. The oak came off as the most dominate component, but there are some other solid parts to it. Not once while drinking this I did I think Porter, but that's fine. It's an oak aged beer, regardless of the beer being oaked. Overall, I'm kind of torn.
