Very nice ruby tinted deep brown body with a violet tint when held up to the light with a thinnish, half a centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of alcohol, pit fruits, light malt and a hint of nuts and bitterness. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong malty flavour with alcohol, oak, vanill and a cool mint warmth coming through immediately. Aftertaste shows a lot of malt, alcohol, peat, nuts and earth with a hint of prunes and raisins. Overall, an okay beer, definitely not great, but some nice flavours and a decent finish make for an acceptable beer. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 12-December-2012 for US$2.69 sampled at home in Washington on 22-December-2012.

Comes in their "Connoisseur’s Oak Collection 2012" at the LCBO with one of their glasses. Written "Carefully matured for 39 days prior to release" on bottom-front label. Pours a clean dark copper colour with a beige head, average retention and a little lacing. Aromas of bananas, prunes, dates at first, and then some light butterscotch, vanilla, nuts and alcohol. The taste is much milder though. Kind of dry from the hop, with flavours of vanilla, dark fruits and sugars. Too bad this one did not taste as good and powerful as the nose. Seems like a watered-down Imperial Porter.

Very nice pour. Dark but not black. Creamy head. Very slight vinegar aroma. Yes, on the buds its stronger than anticipated. Has a bit of an alky bite. A little too ruff for this american pale lager liker. Some vanilla in there. Not a real pleasant porter experince.

Bottle bought in Sainsbury’s, Beaconsfield, Bucks. An amber/red coloured pour with a small off white head on top. Sweet, treacle aroma. Tastes sweet, treacle, caramel. Sickly sweet to be honest and hard to finish. I wouldn’t call this one a porter.

New Beer Distributors, NY 330ml ($3.25): Pours a dark amber with an off-white head. Aroma is vanilla, wood, and whiskey. Taste is a slightly sharp vanilla and wood taste. Taste is a bit sweet. No roasted, malts, chocolate, coffee or anything porter-like to speak of. Mild sugary and malty aftertaste. This is much less of a porter than just an oak-aged strong ale. Innis & Gunn is kind of a one trick pony, but, hey, they make a nice beer.

Pours deep clear mahogany into a snifter. Sparse white head with little retention recedes to hug rim. Sweet caramel, oak and whiskey aromas. Medium bodied with sweet caramel and oak upfront turning to dry whiskey burn finish. Uh, didn’t pick up any porter.

Fruity and chocolaty notes and nice bitterness. Lacking the full body of a porter, but a nice flavor. Brownish red in color with a fading white head.

11.2 ounce bottle. Dark copper color topped by a rocky beige head. Rather light in color for a porter. Aroma is burnt caramel, butterscotch and light oak. Soft toasted malt flavor with a buttery, oaky flavor. Faint molasses flavor. Very elegant. Tasty and complex. Should evolve and improve with age.

Bottle, 7.4%. Dark caramel aroma, slightly burnt. Hint of vanilla? Clear dark brown colour. Small off-white head. The flavour has a distinct vanilla note to begin with. Becomes more malty and bitter, but rounds off with more vanilla. The body is a little thin, and the carbonation a bit rough. But not bad.
