Collab with Cloudwater from Manchester, England. We used the 4769th generation of continuously used yeast strain J.W. Lees, a brewery in England that’s been using this same yeast since the 80s. Sent to us by Paul Jones, co-founder of Cloudwater, his yeast adds a dried apricot & peach aroma to a hop bill of Citra, Centennial & Simcoe. The ale for the beer historian!

Part of a blind tasting of 10 hazy IPAs at Harry’s Hofbrau during SF Beer Week. This garnered my first place vote. Hazy golden-yellow with minimal dusting white head. Grape must. Pineapple and green apple.

Tap at the brewpub. Pours hazy pale yellow. Aroma is dominated by tropical fruit, pineapple, peach. Body is medium, chewy, some juice. Late bitterness, carbonation is there but not taking the spotlight. Good balance, but the mix does not quite work out. Too much residual sweetness compared to the rather low flavours on tongue and palate.

On tap at Cellarmaker. It pours a very hazy pale yellow color with a white head. The aroma is very peachy with light graham cracker, cereal, grapefruit, pear and grape. The flavor has dry bready maltiness and big pear, white grape, grapefruit and peach hop notes. Hint of honey, but still dry. Pretty creamy and juicy. Lots of hop. Strong dank bitterness. Interesting to see what this yeast creates with insane hopping rates. Pretty similar to the East Coast hazy beers. Really good.
