Black with little brown head. Aroma is honey, cocoa, berries. Taste is salty, cocoa bitterness, fruity sweetness and sourness. Full body, a bit smokey in the finish. Nice, but no trace of the raspberries :(

Tap. Dark brown color with beige head. Aroma is salt, roasted malts, soy sauce, umami, chocolate, touch of raspberry. Taste is salty, chocolate, raspberry, quite dry. Very interesting, and much better than the regular Salzspeicher I’ve had (although that one was an old bottle). Silky mouthfeel, low carbonation.

0.5 l bottle from ’Vormann Brauerei’, bottled in Spring 2015 (about one-and-a-half years old). Clear, very dark red to black with a thin, frothy, slightly creamy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish, slightly roasty, rather fruity and maybe minimally sourish aroma of raspberry juice, milk chocolate and a touch of sorbet powder. Sweetish-sourish, quite fruity and slightly roasty taste of milk chocolate, lots of raspberry juice, some sorbet powder and stracciatella ice cream, followed by a medium long, minimally bitter, slightly tart and just a little salty finish. Medium body, a bit creamy and a little astringent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Quite tasty, the raspberry matches the chocolaty roastiness quite well and the sourness is greatly balanced. Nice beer!

500 ml. bottle. Dark purple blueberry juice, few bubbles only on the side. Nose is metallic rotting & fermenting raspberry, old chocolate & some licorice syrup, odd, raspberry is big but weird. Taste is thin metallic spoiled raspberry, ditchwater, too thin with roasted malts, watery, burned malts, licorice,… little carbonation, there is definitely fruit here, it is too watery, metallic, weird licorice etc. overripe & spoiled fruit tasting to really come together. Bit of a letdown & bit of a mess to be frank. The base seems to be quite weak here. Really nasty sediment, gook at the bottom of the bottle, the fruit I suppose?

500ml bottle, from trade with Erzengel, many thanks! Pours dark with small tan head. Aroma bears raspberry syrup, some chocolate. Taste is sticky-thick bodied, veering towards cloying. I’m not too into fruit porters but thankfully the raspberry element is integrated well with cocoa, liquorice salt and roast with a light sour edge.

500 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big sour raspberry, red grape, dark fruit, milk chocolate, cocoa, toasted dark bread, light licorice, sea salt, hay, straw, pepper, light red wine vinegar/funk, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, dark/roasted malt, and raspberry fruit notes; with good strength. Taste of big sour raspberry, red grape, dark fruit, milk chocolate, cocoa, toasted dark bread, light licorice, sea salt, hay, straw, pepper, light red wine vinegar/funk, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Good amount of fruity/tannic tartness, roast bitterness, and yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of sour raspberry, red grape, dark fruit, milk chocolate, cocoa, toasted dark bread, light licorice, sea salt, hay, straw, pepper, light red wine vinegar/funk, and yeast/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Good balance, robustness, and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, dark/roasted malt, and raspberry fruit flavors; with a solid tart/bitter/spiciness balance and some light-moderate bitter astringency lingering after the finish. Moderate dryness from acidity/spiciness as well. Light-medium carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately acidic/sticky, and fairly creamy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a pretty good fruited sour porter style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, dark/roasted malt, and raspberry fruit flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink even with the bitter astringency. A fairly enjoyable offering; the cherry version was much better and more balanced.

A dark brown porter with a very thin mocha head. In aroma, beautiful sweet chocolate malt with loads of raspberry jam, light acidity, dark fruity molasses, very nice. In mouth, a nice tart sweet fruity malt with light chocolate, light raspberry jam, light acidity, light Brett, very nice. On tap at Rattle N Hum.

At a tasting, almost no head, murky deep purple color, with some yellow hues, aroma of prunes and fruit compote with a hint of raspberries, stewed fruit flavor with some chocolate, quite strong unrefined sourness. Muddled but quite interesting.
