Pours nice golden with a thin head that does not really stay. Looks maybe a bit watery. Aroma has some funny anise, herbs, something sweet and medicine-like. taste is also bitter and this anise flavour sort of overpowers everything else. I guess that is this "sweet flag" or whatever it is (googled it, wow, this waterweed is sweet flag? interesting...). Well considering that they are using this weed that does not look even edible, this beer tastes surprisingly nice. Pretty cool actually, I do like the innovative spirit of Shiga Kogen. Overall, unique beer that I cannot really say that I like - but I do have great respect for this experiment.

Tap at 23 Craft Beers, Nagoya. Slightly hazy golden color, small white head. Aroma has light fruity Belgian yeastness. Light-bodied to medium-bodied. Fruity Belgian yeasty flavor and ginger? spiceyness. Simple.

On tap at Bungalow. 6.5% fruity hoppy aroma that reminded me of Nelson Sauvin. A clear gold pour with a thick solid creamy head of white foam. Sharp carbonation on a medium body. The taste is fruity yet almost floral or perfume like. I get a kind of grape soda edge to it, some chewy light malts as well. Sometimes it has a bit of a bitter green quality to it. Quite an interesting beer. Solid.

From tap. Pours cloudy yellow. Small white head. Aroma is grassy and slight citrusy. Bitter, grassy and slight citrusy. Bitter and slight herbal. Dry, herbal. Hoppy and slight grassy finish.

Bottle. Hazy yellow with small white head. Aroma is malt, fruit, yeast and spices. Flavour is malt, fruit, spices, herbs, medium sweet, hop and a little bitter.

Bottle @ fonefan tasting. Medium head with medium duration. Color is pale golden. Aroma and taste are soap, honey, grass, malt and hops.

Draught at the Tanabata Beer Festival 2013. ginger-like nose from the shobu, plus citrus, grass, pilsner malt. Flavor is sweet ginger and malt, though it dries out nicely, with a peppery hop and spicy finish. Nicely dry. Nice use of the shobu, though I wouldn’t want to drink too much.
