Bottle 0.33l from Oluthuone Leskinen, Oulu. Colour is black with brownish white small head. Aromas and flavours are smoke, roastiness, coffee and chocolate. Very dry.

Tap at the Stags Head my first stout of the year. Pours dark brown with nose of smoke and chocolate. tastes of malt, bitter dark chocolate, bacon, earth, smoke, rootbeer, coffee, and soy sauce. pretty bitter and harsh with a lot bacon flavor to me at least. interesting

Bottle. Pours opaque black with a large dark brown creamy head that slowly dissipates and leaves excellent lacing. Aroma is coffee, cocoa powder, dark roasted malts, molasses. Flavor is much the same, with only a very light sweetness and pronounced coffee-based bitterness. Finish has notes of tobacco. Full bodied and almost silky in the mouth, quite tasty when you are looking for a strong stout without the sweetness of most.

Bottle. Creamy lightbrown excellent fully lasting head. Black colour. Heavy malty and moderate hoppy aroma. Heavy bitter wonderfull flavor. Week lactose notes. Long moderate bitter finish. Roast coffee and other nice notes. Creamy palate. Nice brew.

12 oz bottle @ home. Black color. Dense beige head, fairly good lace. Aroma’s: hard roasted malts, burnt wood, drop/licorice, coffee, hint of vanilla; retronasal: heavily roasted & some malty sweetness. Flavor is medium sweet, roasted, with some fruitiness. Alcohol feel is not too strong. Body is quite full, with a soft, velvetty mouthfeel. Long finish, with lots of roast and a firm bitterness. Lovely!

Bottle: Literally black, big and stable creamy tanned head, rich, slightly sourish nose - wood, dried fruits, leather and molasses; very solid sweet-sourish flavour, medium to full bodied, really smooth; coffee and leather in the sweet-sourish and malt-bitter finish. Great stuff...

Bottle. Smoky prune, chocolate, soy sauce aroma. Near black with a huge brown head. Espresso, chocolate, dark fruit flavor with a roasty bitter finish. Full body.

12 Fl Oz Bottle poured at home into a Westmalle chalice on 4th Oct 2012. Black bodied beer, with a full, dark tanned creamy head. the head sadly soon fell away to a wisp and collar. Burnt ground coffee and roasted malt loaf type smell, add some dark chocolate and some walnuts: that is the nose I detected. The taste follows the aromas but with a drier, bitter feel. The hop content comes into its own in the flavours once the beer hits the back of the mouth: this adds some balance and calms down the malts a little, giving the beer a semi-kick and prevents it being too smooth or rich feeling in texture. I liked it: another Californian I’d happily have again.
