Golden naked oats mashed with dark crystal and robust roasted malts create a luscious black brew with a satin smooth finish. Layering UK Target hops in the boil adds a pleasant, earthy complexity while higher fermentation temperatures enhance the overall flavor with fruity esters. An old-world style, done the Green Flash way. Big, bold, flavorful and complex – Double Stout.

12 oz bottle purchased as a single at MDL in Overland Park, Kansas. Pour is a dark brown black with settling that builds up a firm 1 1/2 inch khaki head. Falls slowly with thick lacing. The aroma is bitter dark chocolate, soft malt sweetness, and a hint of pine and roast. All nicely melded with an approachable softness. The taste starts with big bitter dark chocolate, chalky cane sugar sweet malt, finishing with pine roast and more of the chalky sweetness. A touch of soy is present as well which doesn’t work real well for me with the sweetness. The palate is medium bodied, a little oily, yet dry with the bitterness. Aftertaste offers up some alcohol heat. Overall, the taste didn’t have too much of the softness and integration of the nose, though was still interesting enough.

22 oz. bottle, from Gary’s Beverage, Portsmouth, NH. Used an English pint glass. Nice thick, full, dense, tan head, lots of lace. Nose is almost exclusively roasted malt. The taste is where this one shines. Full body. Nice creamy texture. Flavor of roasted malt, coffee, and dark chocolate with a lightly bitter finish. I don’t pick up the 8.8 abv at all. A very fine stout. I will buy this again.

Pour is a black with a nice creamy tan head. Aroma is a very nice roasted malt with some coffee. Flavor is more of the coffee with some, anise and dark chocolate. Finish leaves a nice roasted malt on the tounge as this goes down. Very flavorful and rich.

33cl bottle. Black beer with light beige head, creamy, good lacing and perfect lasting. Aroma is to toasted and roasted malts, notes of black coffee are also present. Flavour is roasted, wooden, with hard traces of black coffee. Dense on palate and with an average biterness. Carbonation is soft. Texture is oily. Body is full.

Bottle. Completely black, medium brown head that settles quickly, solid lacing. Aroma of coffee with chocolate melted into it, light spice. Taste is thick and chewy tobacco, dark cocoa, espresso left on the burner too long. Delicious.

Cremig malziger Antrunk. Geringe Bananigkeit. Super! 7/12/12/11/10/12

Bottled 355ml. -from Kihoskh, Copenhagen. Different label than this one on the pic. Oily black coloured, big creamy brown head, chocolate and alcohol in the nose. Roasted (almost burnt) malt, bitter chocolate and light licorice with strong but pleasant alcohol presence. Quite complex and superb stout.

Whole Foods, P st, DC 4-pack ($11): Pours a black color with a brownish head. Aroma is of coffee, vanilla, roasted malt, and some tree. Taste starts out smooth, but then hits into some bitterness, which sustains throughout and into the aftertaste. Considering the high alcohol content, it drinks pretty smooth, but as it warms up there are certainly notes of some booze up in there. Overall, this is robust, but palatable. Strong, but in a sense subdued. Having had the Green Flash hops bombs, I thought this would be way more intense, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a more ’measured’ and subdued beer (ignore the 8.8).
