This stout is simply not suitable for vegetarians. It contains oysters. Now, you won’t find one at the bottom of the glass, but you may get a touch of sweet minerality in the flavour that comes from the freshly shucked lads that get put in during brewing. Not a bad way to go, even for a bivalve.Delicate and toasty, it also has slightly bitter, fragrant twist, thanks to East Kent Goldings.

On tap. Smooth and creamy start. The beer is smooth, slightly roasted. In the aftertaste smooth and slightly roasted. Very smooth and easy to drink.

Aroma is a bit sweet with some roastiness, cocoa and toffee. Flavour is slightly sour with cocoa, some hay, English hops, roastiness, cold coffee and toffee. Also some truffles. Finishes with mellow tartness. I was told that this is what oyster stouts used to be – quite close to English or Irish stouts this still is, the slight sourness makes the difference I think.

BB 16.02.15, 330ml bottle. Pours black with ruby highlights. The head is light tan and disappears quickly. Aroma is mild caramel, toasty, slight sweetness, some fruits maybe. Taste is roasted malt, coffee, slight sweetness. Finish is some dark chocolate bitterness and salt. Overall: nice light beer would go really nice with some oysters.

Dobre i smaczne, tresciwe i ostrygi wyczuwalne troche karmelu i na koncu gozkawy chmiel. Wyglad natomiast nie oszalamia. Niewielka piana, kolor przeswitujacy jak na stouta z rubinowymi refleksami, w zasadzie przypominal troche portera niz stouta. Ale ogolnie smakowo jest dobrze.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours a ruby brown colour, with minimal white head, soon dissipating. Lovely chocolate aroma, with oyster notes. Medium/full body, texture was a litle oily (down to the oysters?), carbonation was quite flat. Very enjoyable.

24/05/2013 Birrifugio Trastevere (tap). Nera, impenetrabile, bellissima schiuma bianco-beige, finissima e molto persistente. Al naso sentori di malti tostati, con note di cenere, una punta di salmastro, grande equilibrio ed eleganza. in bocca è delicata, una carezza, armoniosa in perfetto stile anglosassone, forse un po’ corta. Corpo medio-leggero, carbonazione soft. Una ottima interpretazione del genere.
