Amber, intense in colour and with a persistent head. Intriguingly aromatic bouquet. Soft and balanced, with enjoyable toasty notes, hints of red fruits and a slight spiciness from refermentation in the bottle, which adds even more interest. Malts: Pilsner, Chocolate. Hops: Saaz, Perle. Ingredients: water, malted barley, hops, candy sugar.

Pours hazy amber brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, dried fruits and hint of yeast and apples. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long malty, yeasty and apple finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle, 75cl. A big, off-white head forms over an almost clear, dark amber-brown body. Some curtains. Raisins, prunes, some caramel and yeast in the aroma. Hints of yeast and some baked apples. It’s medium bodied, quite dry and with a pleasant carbonation. Toffee, some chocolate, baked apples, dried dark fruits and some bitterness in the flavor. Lasting finish. Quite nice this one, but a bit thin and dry I think. 150718

Pours copper brown, slightly hazy, nice beige foam. Aroma has prunes, toffee, sweet dark marmelade. Taste has dried dark fruits, hint of hops, medium body. Not too much going on here but nit bad and aftertaste lingers for a while. Wigs and some herb tea.

Again, thanks to Mas Plenum people for cracking this one open! At Vinocom. Poured a brown-amber body with a small, thick beige head. Sweet malty aroma, apfelstrudel, pleasant fruity notes. Sweet, creamy taste, that what was in the aroma makes a repeat performance too. Mild for the ABV in a way and very drinkable.

Bottle 750 ml in Zagreb. Pours dark amber with large off-white head. Malty caramel aroma. Sweet fruity, caramel, toast, bit spicy. Quite drinkable considering alcohol and style. Not my favorite style but pretty good.

Bottle from Seiyu for 400 or so yen. Served in a pint glass. It pours a dark reddish brown. With a thick off-white head that lingers. The aroma is a solid fruity malt aroma. Medium to full bodied within a zesty mouthfeel. The taste is a candyish sweetness with sweet citrusy hop notes that has a thick malty caramel backbone. Perfectly balanced between citrus & malts - very tasty. Simple but sweetly good.

Poured a one finger head that reduced to a thin layer. Malty, spicy, yeasty, and some dried fruit. Nice dubbel aroma to the nose. Caramel and bready malts, spicy, yeasty, and dried orange marmalade. Smooth, low to medium carbonation, medium bodied, a little chewy, and a nice sipper.

Bottle at Mosto, Matera. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of overripe dark fruits, caramel, malt, brown sugar and spices. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Belgian-style dubbel in Amarcord’s AMA series, with loosely structured, light beige head and caramel brown colour, misty. Pleasant aroma of chocolate, candi sugar, nuts, caramel, jute and aniseed, taste mildly fruity, raisins, spicy accents, mouthfeel a bit too watery and thin for this genre, some candi sweetness, finish mildly hoppy, not turning bitter, again rather thin. As much as I love Belgian-style ales and as much as I admire the often underestimated brewing activity in the north of Italy, this one just didn’t quite do it for me.
