Coffee/vanilla porter. The guys at Devil’s Peak took a look at our Cafe Racer recipe, and decided to rev it up with a little African style.
Rammed with rich Kenyan espresso and Bourbon vanilla from Madagascar, this brew is as black as the ace of spades in the Devil’s Peak logo.

Keg at CASC, Aberdeen sampled April 2016. Pours jet black with a small tan cap. Aroma: rich roast, espresso, liquorice & treacle hints. Taste: moderate to heavy sweet, roasted malts, plenty of coffee, cacao nibs, liquorice, light acidity, semi-dry finish. Medium to full body with fine carbonation.

Keg halfpint at Craftsman Company / Excite the Enthusiast Coffee & Ale House, Aberdeen. ABV was said to be 9%, but this is almost certainly a version brewed in Scotland. Black colour, small tan head. Aroma of vanilla and chocolate. The flavour is pleasantly sweet, with distinct notes of chocolate and vanilla. No sign of espresso coffee, so I wonder if this might be the allegedly retired ordinary Imperial Café Racer version at 8% ABV? Anyway, this is a lovely beer.

From a 330ml can on 24/11/2019 (ABV listed as 8.5%, not 8%). Pours not far off black with a smallish head. Has a pleasant aroma featuring both the promised coffee and vanilla. Coffee and vanilla dominate flavour wise too, with some milk chocolate and a bit of roasted malt. The palate is slick and the carbonation moderate. This is a very enjoyable and quite impressive imperial porter. Score wise, it suffers a touch simply because I recently tried Ballast Point's Victory at Sea - a coffee and vanilla imperial porter which sets the bar exceptionally high. Don't be dissuaded though, this is still excellent drinking.

Bière 33 cl. Jolie couleur noire et mousse faible. Nez café. Bouche café, chocolat, malt torréfié, léger côté fumé, vanille, très bonne dans son genre. Longue en bouche et assez sèche.

330ml bottle. Jet black colour with slightly late awakening, small, creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, tan head. Same as the non-Imperial version: this is a vanilla thing. More roast, more chocolate, more coffee as was expectable for the Impy version - still too much vanilla for my personal liking. But definitely better balanced and not that monolateral.

RB backlog. Coffee, blackberries, dark chocolate, toasted coconut. Mildly sweet, mineralic tartness takes over, intense fruity coffee in the finish.
