American hops dominate this Rye IPA, creating an assertive citrus and passion fruit character. An old-world flavor from rye malt adds the perfect compliment to Goose Juice’s big, satisfying hop flavor and aroma. Originally home-brewed by our beloved brewer Goose, its wonderful combination of flavors inspired us to brew this specialty IPA.

Bomber. So it’s always an exciting moment when I get my hands on a new Hoppin Frog offering and hopes are running high as I pop the cap. The beer pours a fairly clear orange with a decent head and yummy aromas of Citra-like passion fruit and light citrus with a little bit of a rye twanginess. First sip reveals a heavy handed rye presence that has me a little sad because it overpowers the hops presence. I let it warm a bit and that does help, but in this particular bottle the rye is just too heavy. The hops do come through a bit with their tropical fruit loveliness, but they are just peeking through the rye avalanche that runs across the palate. The beer is simply too malty (both rye and caramel) for my preferences for the style.

Clear amber color, small off-white head. Citrus-resiny aroma. Medium-bodied. Quite soft palate, rye is cutting the edges? When warms up, you can trace some rye bread too. Resiny, a bit sweet and malty flavor with hints of grapefruit. Nice one.

Bomber @ The Rover. Pours slightly hazy amberish golden with a rather small frothy offwhite head that leaves some thick lacing on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet and rather intense with grapefruit juice, the zest of overripe lemons, caramel, alcohol, rye crisp bread, orange zest, fresh grass, overripe grapes, wood and strawberries. Taste is sweet, bitter, fruity and malty with caramel, strawberries, dark rye bread, orange zest, grapefruit juice, alcohol, fruity grapes, mandarin oranges, resinous wood and hints of moist tobacco. Mouthfeel is smooth, round, slightly boozy and medium bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with sweet dark rye read, orange zest, grass, caramel, alcohol an grapefruit rinds. Fresh fruity and nice but the alcohol is slightly disturbing and prevents this from being great.

Bottle 65 cl. Slightly hazy golden with a dense and creamy white head leaving some lacework. Very interesting hop aroma - actually reminds me of Sorachi Ace, but I could be mistaken - combined with some licorice allsorts. Medium body, smoth mouthfeel, rather sophisticated and unusual hop accents - coconut. Only discreetly bitter but interesting and different. 130712

This brew pours a slightly hazy copper-amber color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, herbs and malt. Medium body with flavors of toasted rye bread, malt, citrusy hops and a bit of sweet spice. The finish is spicy rye malt with a hoppy aftertaste. Solid beer overall.
