The latest release in our Abstrakt series. Aged for over 14 months in barrels, AB:13 is an 11.3% Cherry Imperial Stout aged in ex Sherry whisky barrels.

Cherry & Sherry, the recipe was devised by our production manager Nikola and is based on the classic German Schwarzlwald dessert. This is very, very special. Pretty much all of our team have been blown away by this oak aged beer as it rattled off our bottling line.

Bottle. An oily black beer with a small light tan head. Lots of alcohol in the aroma, with roasted malts and coffee. Molasses and some salty licorice. The flavor has a roasted maltyness dominating, with coffee and some burnt hints. Molasses and licorice. Full body, soft carbonation. Lasting finish. Sure a nice one, but it’s too warming. 140215

Bottle at home. The colour is pitch black with a small, light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, liqour, cherries, oak, chocolate and licorice. The flavour is more roasted and sweet with chocolate and still a berry touch. Has more ash and dryness in the aftertaste. Slick and rich mouth feel, and has a medium bitterness. A complex, sweet and roasted ale. Interesting and very nice.

Bottle bought @ Systembolaget. Pours oily pitch black with a small dark chocolate brown head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace in the glass. Smell is sweet and fruity with roasted malts, chocolate covered cherries, salty liquorice candy, sweet soy sauce, molasses, sweetened dark roast coffee, charred wood, dry sherry, moist soil, alcohol and burnt caramel. Taste is tiny sweet, bitter, tiny tart and fruity with heavily roasted malts, burnt wood, sour cherries, bitter chocolate, dark roast coffee, raisins, hay, soil, dry sherry, burnt caramel, vanilla fudge and hints of slightly sour cherry hard candy. Mouthfeel is round, slightly fruity tart, tiny dry, slightly roasted astringent and medium to full bodied. Finish is bitter and tiny fruity with roasted malts, bitter chocolate, sour cherries, hay, soil, burnt wood, caramel, dry sherry and alcohol. Another impressive BrewDog beer. And I who had lost all hope. Also another cherry beer paired with BCBS Chocolate Mud Cake. A match made in heaven...

375 ml bottle. Pitch black beer with a small, creamy and dark brown head. There are notes mainly of (roasted) malt, dark bread and chocolate as well as fruit (sour cherries) and some wood. Heavy sweetness, medium bitterness and light sourness in the taste. Long bitter and somewhat sour finish. Medium-bodied with a somewhat oily texture and soft carbonation. Easy to drink and tasty!

Bottle with thanks to Ben! Pours deep dark black with a small dark brown head that leaves good lacing. Aroma is chocolate covered cherries, roasty, bit of tobacco. Flavor is the same, cherry, chocolate, light plus sweet and medium plus bitter, strong bitterness coming on in the finish. Some astringence and wood notes as well. Bit of anise, unfortunately. Full body, lingering strong bitterness in the far finish. ABV well masked.
