The latest release in our Abstrakt series. Aged for over 14 months in barrels, AB:13 is an 11.3% Cherry Imperial Stout aged in ex Sherry whisky barrels.

Cherry & Sherry, the recipe was devised by our production manager Nikola and is based on the classic German Schwarzlwald dessert. This is very, very special. Pretty much all of our team have been blown away by this oak aged beer as it rattled off our bottling line.

Bottle - Dry sherry, some dark malt and Worcester sauce.. Jet black with a thin brown head. Holy crap, the taste is nothing like the smell, nor is it like anything I could imagine. Chocolate, cherry and sherry with a bit of raw barrel notes followed by a bitter chocolate that finishes sour. Cool and interesting just cant get over the nose.

Bottle 375ml @Beer Hunters 7960/9972
Opaque black color, small brown head. Aroma is milky (lactose), toasted malty, chocolaty. Full-bodied. Sweetish, berryish syrapy flavor, toasted malts and chocolate. Sweetness covers alcohol very well. Young and needs cellar time.

Opaque black - brown beer, good tan head. Palate is smooth, slightly soft and a little dry. Modest carbonation. Soft dark malts, airy with a mellow tang. Touch of dark chocolate. Something vaguely fruity and caramel. Mild cherry vibe. Finishes soft with a subtle cappuccino note. Nice.

Abstrakt 01 - 25 Vertical @ Brewdog Sheps Bush. Opaque dark brown beer, short lived bubbly tan head. Palate is smooth and has modest fine carbonation. Tangy dark malts. Good ripe chocolate covered berry fruits. Slightly herby fruity whiskey. Lightly spicy and warming finish. Good apart from the loss of carbonation. Work well these bastard rubber corks eh? 3.5

Bottle at Tadg’s BrewDog event. This was hard to get into at first, with the fresh pour in the little plastic cup giving off lots of paint thinner and overly-oxidized wine. But with time to open up, and put into a proper glass, it was absolutely wonderful and my favorite of the day. Nose of cherry and raspberry, plus sherry, red wine, oak barrel. Thick, dark brown with lovely legs. Creamy, fruity flavor with good tartness. Lots of sherry and wood. Very tangy. Great.

11.3% at Tadg’s nice malty chocolate aroma. Dark oily black pour with a purplish brown head. Nice smooth chocolatey flavor with a bit of vanilla & licorice. Wow second taste gave me sour grape vibes! Served in a snifter the barrel aged character comes through more clearly, somewhat boozy but the fruitiness is much more clearly cherry, very nice.

The bottle #8410 opened with nice pop, a black beer with a beautiful, medium and dark chocolate brown head. This is probably the most darkest head that I have ever seen, beautiful. At first, the nose of strongy red wine and grapes, then after the confusion, also roastiness, quite lots of sherry and sweetness, some liquirice, also sometimes hint of alcohol. Taste starts with strong grapes and some cherries, then also strong roastiness, dry barrel, tannins and red grapes, quite simple taste. Nuancees from grapes are there in the taste all the time. Medium+ bodied, low carbonation, surprisingly light. I start to drink this beer about 14 degrees celsius and that was too cold, the grapes were too dominating. Better when warmer. The unique, strongly red wine like beer, maybe too much.
