The latest release in our Abstrakt series. Aged for over 14 months in barrels, AB:13 is an 11.3% Cherry Imperial Stout aged in ex Sherry whisky barrels.

Cherry & Sherry, the recipe was devised by our production manager Nikola and is based on the classic German Schwarzlwald dessert. This is very, very special. Pretty much all of our team have been blown away by this oak aged beer as it rattled off our bottling line.

On tap at CBC, pours a thick sludgy black with a small dark brown head. Aroma of intense roasted malt, cherries, brandy and whiskey -- every component is easily discernible. Flavour is very complex, full of sludgy roasted malt, cherries, and some subdued liqueur. Despite the extensive barrel aging, I don't get much prominence from them. There is a bit of a liqueur quality that blends well with the cherries. Extremely complex, with every layer working in harmony. Excellent stuff.

Sampled at CBC 2013. Opaque, pitch black color, large, creamy, fair lacing, mostly lasting brown head. Aroma is moderately malty, roasted malts, lightly burnt malts, dark chocolate. Taste malts, roasted malts, lightly burnt malts, coffee, slightly sour and something weird I didn’t expect. Medium to full body, lively carbonation.
