Bottle at Dean’s night before the night tasting, Den Haag sourced from Cotteridge Wines at the Siren tasting with Ryan. Poured a deep mahogany with a bubbly round head. The aroma is dry dusty roasted malt, liqourice, boozy alcohol and coffee. The flavour is medium to heavy bitter with a big liqourice alcoholic palate. Full bodied with flat carbonation. An oily mouthfeel with a smooth short bitter finish.

Bottle directly from Siren Brewery, Finchampstead, Berkshire, 20th November 2013, consumed at home Saturday 21st December 2013 This is a really thick and as the name suggests an evil looking beer. Black in colour and looking like a prehistoric tar pit with no head and leaving an oily residude on the glass. crikey it looks scary! Superb in the mouth, this tastes indulgent, chocolate and with swirls of coffee cream it is very thick and fullsome in the mouth. The espresso coffee really adds to this. I also get a little liquorice, it really is wonderful, smooth, powerful (but not boozy) rich and majestic. Loved this. A8 A4 T9 P5 Ov16 4.2
