An Imperial Blonde Ale or Blonde Barley Wine; Helldorado has the lightest color of any of the beers in our barrel program but carries a great deal of interesting barrel character: vanilla, light char and amazing lavender-honey notes. Rich boozy honey liqueur character and loads of smooth sweet toasted malt to finish. The El Dorado hops dance in the background without playing a dominant role in the flavor profile. This beer gets better and better the longer it is in barrel.

On tap at Beer revolution in Oakland. Hazed bright orange coloured pour with a lasting loose off white head. Aroma is paint, solvent, boozy cakey malts, hint of toffee, caramel and play dough. Flavour is composed of nutty rounded malts, marzipan, toffee, rum, spicy alcohol bite, toffee. Nice marzipan character. Palate is medium full, sticky. , high carbonation. Long lingering sticky toffee and high alcohol. Some wood tannin and paint solvent. Vanilla cake. Good barley wine.

Bottle from Bert’s Crystal clear deep golden with a decent sized bubbly white head that shows moderate retention. Brown sugary caramel maltiness with bits of dried fruit and an earthy woody bourbon note. Light vanilla. It’s a bit thin and a little boozy but tasty.

Bottle sampled thanks to Maakun. Pours hazy golden orange with a small off white head. Aroma of vanilla, woody barrels, bourbon, caramel and toffee. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light moderate bitter. Medium to full bodied with above light carbonation.

Bottle at THT. Beautiful clear golden with white head. Bourbon, vanilla, marzipan, caramel, syrup, lots of sweet malts, light flowery, light alcohol. Quite sweet with light herbal and alcoholic bitter finish. Full bodied with soft but present carbonation. Quite good for a barley wine.

4 oz pour on draft at ChurchKey. Clear golden orange with off-white head. Aromas of caramel, bourbon, butterscotch. Tastes of caramel, bourbon, light booze. Full body with a dry finish. Very nicely done.

Golden color, clear, with small head. Fundamentally it reminds me some horrible British golden Barley Wine; this one is less oily, it has a bit more malt flavor, it’s fairly sweet, it has a pretty strong Bourbon character, and it’s not too boozy.
An ok beer, I wouldn’t be interested in drinking it again.
