SOME CAT FROM JAPAN suggested we do an IPA that is J-U-I-C-Y. So we packed up a pack horse and made it happen! Soft doughy and slightly tangy malt lies under bright citrus, round tropical fruit and mild pine resin hop aromatics that underscore the waves of flavors to come.

16 oz can from Tavour. Hazy golden pour with ring of white head. Aroma is citrus, floral and grassy with some light malty notes. Taste adds a nice sharp bitter edge, still possessing the citrus flavors, adding some lemon and finishing kind of sweet.

16 oz. About three weeks old. Aroma is a tangerine and grapefruit explosion with hints of cantaloupe and bready malt--amazing. Pours hazy golden with a long-lasting two finger cream-white head that leaves curtains of lace. Taste is moderately bitter, lightly sweet, lots of juice; crisp, clean and refreshing. Has a lingering pithy bitterness. Great stuff.

Can (3/4/20) pour from Greg & Jane's Beer and Wine. Had the DDH version--not sure if this is the same or not--very confusing. Semed to be Nelson and UT has this split out? Appearance is very cloudy dark yellow with no sparkle, finger-width foamy white head with good retention and light leggy lacing. Aroma is mixture of candy and sweet and tart fruit (kolsch?, white wine?) that fades as it warms; mild herb. Taste is mild-to-moderate mostly sweet fruit with a grape character, mild lemon citrus with notable yeast and malt backbone--vaguely biscuity, and hint of herb. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with frothy texture, lively carbonation, and pretty crisp, dry finish with lingering sweet and bitterness. Overall, some nice qualities but it didn't quite live up to the juicy blast I was anticipating (age have something to do with?) and wasn't totally harmonious. A bit muted, mouthfeel is too thin, too carbonated and too dry for something meant to be hugely juicy. OK but was expecting more.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 9/3/2019. Pours opaquely hazy deep golden amber color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big tangerine, orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, light toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt notes; with big strength. Taste of huge tangerine, orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, light toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and sticky/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 6.6%. Overall this is a fantastic NEIPA. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish. Nicely soft feel and not overly aggressive. Feels like Columbus, Simcoe, and Citra. Extremely juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy hops; with a great wheat/oat/malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding style example as expected.

Can from Holiday Market. Pours a hazy gold with a finger of creamy white foam that lingers. Big dank, tropical fruit focused nose with some prickly pine and loads of durian and lychee as it warms. Nice, relatively soft mouthfeel with tangy citrus, underripe peach and faint blueberry notes on the palate. Finishes with some dry bitter pith, grass, citrus and tropical fruit that leaves a lingering, pithy bitterness on the finish. Balanced and nice. --- Beer merged from original tick of Weird and Gilly on 23 Sep 2019 at 08:56 - Score: 8

On draught at Bob's Bar. Hazy golden color with a medium thin white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Strings of lace. Aroma of tart citrus, wheat and malt. Medium body with flavors of citrusy hops, mango, hay and malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a lingering citrus and hop aftertaste. Good beer overall.
