Derivation Blend #10 shares the same recipe as Blend #5, it is an Imperial Oatmeal Stout that started as a recipe that I created almost 7 years ago. After fermenting in stainless with an American yeast strain, this recipe (we call it “Oats/D5" on the recipe sheets) was racked to freshly dumped Rum Barrels and aged for 14 months before we moved it to our brite tank to be finished on a new coffee, a Kaldi’s El Manzano Honey Processed Coffee from El Salvador, and also copious amounts of Madagascar Vanilla Beans.

No head, jet black beer, again pouring like motor oil. Chili, chocolate, almonds, pepper, old wood. Sweet flavour with chili, vanilla, old dried fruit in Bourbon with chocolate sauce, roast and coffee. Nearly solid food, alcoholexplosion. Insane. In price.

Bottle shared. Pours a deep brown to pitch black with a small beige head that dissipates. Slight smoked nose with cacao nib, molasses, prune, plum, coconut, vanilla and rum notes on the nose. As it warms up lots of rum and dark stone fruit. Not overly boozy, with smooth rum, dark malt, coffee and more vanilla. Enjoyable. --- Beer merged from original tick of Derivation (Blend #10) on 06 Jul 2019 at 18:15 - Score: 8. Original review text: Thanks John!

Bottle at SP Cellar. Pours a black with medium tan head that lasts. The aroma is strong smoke, oak, roast, dark chocolate, rum. Slick body, roast, dark chocolate, wood, boozy finish, very nice.

Bottle from the Cellar. Sweet vanilla and rum barrel very prevalent on the nose. Black with minimal brown head that fades to a collar. Rum pervades the flavor with a solid roast dryness in the back.
