The addition of cacao and vanilla beans raises the bar of this already decadent imperial stout. Notes of chocolate cookie, graham cracker, caramel, and Nilla Wafers, transition into a satisfyingly round body with toasted marshmallow flavors and raw chocolate undertones. A conservative, yet balanced bitterness, leads to an ultra-smooth, semi sweet finish.

Can pour in trade with AirForceHops--thanks, Chris! Appearance is opaque black with trace sparkle at the edges of the glass, a few light floaties, finger-width foamy light brown head with fair retention and mild leggy lacing. Aroma is vanilla, roasted malt, cocoa. Taste is strong vanilla, roasted malt, hint of cocoa. Mouthfeel is medium side of light-to-medium bodied with smooth, thick, frothy texture, average carbonation with a light lively ending kick, mild alcohol heat (but not burn) and finish as taste. Overall, vanilla is the dominant player and the underlying stout is fairly muted. Cacao adds a bit but aroma is stronger than taste. Pretty good.

Aroma is soft coca and vanilla. Flavor has both adjuncts with them not getting overly sweet. Lighter roasted malts and slight bitterness to provide balance. Full body and nice texture.

Draft at Southern Grist 3rd Anniversary. Pours a pitch black with a finger of brown foam that lingers, then dissipates. Fudge brownie forward aromas with cacao nib and vanilla notes. Smooth on the palate, decadent with deep cacao nib notes and more dark chocolate...mild tobacco and stronger vanilla as it warms up. Lingering cacao nib, vanilla bean and espresso. Very good.
