Sampled on draft at 3 Rivers this beer poured a very dark brown color with faint orange highlights and a huge fluffy brown head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was dry, toasty and doughy. The flavor was bitter and toasty with molasses, wood, dough and a hint of chocolate. Medium length finish. Medium body. Meh.

Bottle pour into pub glass from Whole Foods Market. Appearance is clear dark brown/mahogany with fair sparkle, 1/2-finger width beige head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is toasted malts, bordering on burnt, with some earth and hints of chocolate and floral/fruit. Taste is bittersweet roasted malts, earthy bitterness. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with frothy texture, average carbonation and mostly bitter roasted dry finish. Overall, pretty straightforward with the roasted malt without much nuance.

Pour is a almost black with some ruby highlights around the edges and a large tan head. Aroma is some roasted malt with a mix of sweet chocolate malt. Flavor is more of a charred malt with some subtle chocolate and roasted bitterness. Not a style I have a lot of but this was pretty solid. Lots of chocolate and roasted malt without being heavy.
