On the surface, The Perfect Disguise looks like a straightforward Kölsch with a crisp Kölsch yeast and traditional German malts and hops … but things aren’t always what they seem. With a quick sniff and a slight sip, you’re greeted by a creamy mouthfeel and full body thanks to the addition of a unique German chit malt - the first hint that this beer may be somewhat different.

Hiding deeper behind that German disguise is the double dry-hopping of an American Double IPA, with nearly 4 lbs. of German and American hops per barrel. It brings tropical flavors of citrus, tangerine, mango, gooseberries and peach.

The artwork for The Perfect Disguise was brought to life and designed by 2019 Off-Centered Art Series artist Michael Hacker. The name ‘The Perfect Disguise’ was the inspiration for the illustration design as it’s a play on words with whether or not the beer is actually a Kölsch or an American IPA.

Clear gold pour. Hoppy, citrus aroma. The flavor is of pine, citrus, aggressive hops, and bready malt. It’s very tasty. Not too sweet. The focus is on the hops as it should be. Excellent beer.

Both flavors and aromas are an odd blend of caramel malt, funk, resin hops, with hints of fun k, cut grass. A little sweet up front with some growing bitterness towards the end. Also some medicinal in there. Seems like the beer might be a touch old.

Bottle from JR's. Clear pale ale. Mild fruity perfumy nose. The taste evolution is this; first its immediately like some kind of mild fruity beer then it suddenly kicks in with all of its double eye pee aye ness. Yes, nellie like the loch ness monster; big kick fricken ass straight up in yer face. So big so terrible so nasty and so on style. Seems to be rather sterile and alky fied in the middle. Nasty nellie clear to the end. Whew and double wew.

Not really sure how the whole koslch vibe comes into this but I guess anything could be a koslch if you call it a koslch.

On tap at bier thirty pours out golden topped with a white head. Nose is citrus pine hops and a great toast malt. Taste is more of the nice sweet citrus hops pine bitterness and a caramel malt.
