Batch 8000 is a Quadruple IPA with raspberry brewed in celebration of the 8,000th batch of beer brewed at the Short’s Brewing Production Facility in Elk Rapids. Pale amber in color, this beer carries scents of dank berries and tropical fruit. Slightly sweet to start it is quickly balanced by the tart raspberry and pungent hops. Intense citrusy dank hops coat the drinkers’ mouth balancing the high alcohol content. Powerful, intense, and boozy, Batch 8000 is the perfect sipper to share.

I hate “fruity” beers—i.e. beers with fruit dominating the palate and little other character I love big ABV IPAs. The fruit flavor in this beer is nicely used to take the edge off the high ABV. Just right! Short’s rolled out another great IPA.

Bottle shared at Lucky Bamboo share. Pours a clearish gold to copper with 2 fingers of foam that lingers. Overripe orange aromas with caramel, toasted toffee and raspberry notes. Sweet on the palate, heavy, full-bodied and boozy. Sweet finish, with some toasted caramel and light hoppy bitterness and raspberry syrup.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 2/7/2018. Pours crystal clear medium orange/amber/light copper color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky cream colored head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, raspberries, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, honey, bread, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Touch of booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops, raspberries, and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, raspberries, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, honey, bread, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, herbal, grassy bitterness; and slight raspberry tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, raspberries, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, honey, bread, light caramel, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops, raspberries, and bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance; and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, fairly sticky, and lightly slick/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Alcohol is extremely well hidden; a mildly increasing warmth of 15.8%, with minimal booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is a incredible fruited huge DIPA! All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops, raspberries, and bready malt flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV; with the mellowly bitter/drying finish, never aggressive. Got even better as it warmed up. Extremely juicy hops, some jammy berries, and light dankness; balanced sweet malts, not too heavy for the ABV. The raspberries fit in perfectly with the fruity/tropical hops as expected; well restrained and not overdone to the point it feels like a fruit beer. A highly enjoyable offering.

22 oz bottle. Pours a clear orange amber with an off-white head. Aroma leads with citrus, then gets taken over by the raspberry. Flavor is heavy on the citrus hops (grapefruit, orange), some tropical fruit hop flavors also (mango, pineapple, passion fruit). The raspberry blends into the spectrum of fruit flavors, which is really nice. I wouldn't pick out the raspberry if this was just handed to me, but knowing it's there it seems to nicely round out a very juicy, sticky, fruity IPA. I really like it.
