Daddy-O Pilsner honors Linus’ granddad, Parker “Bullet” Hall, known to all his grandkids as “Daddy-O”. He was an All-American at Ole Miss, and was the first NFL player to be Rookie of the Year and MVP in the same year, in 1939.

Daddy-O Pilsner is brewed with pilsner and Vienna malts, a touch of flaked corn, and a blend of classic and new American hops.

Poured from 355mL can (thanks mom; pkg 06/09/2022). Clear gold with minimal white head. Grain, very feint lemon citrus notes, just a hint of grass hops. Meh.

On tap at the Nashville Airport. Pours a hazy yellow with small white head that lasts. The aroma is citrus and grass. Thin body, pine, lemon zest, light finish, good.

Bottle from Craft Brewed. Pours a clear gold with a finger of foam. Light grain on the nose with faint honey and toasted grain as it warms. Clean and crisp on the palate. Well-balanced, not quite as Czech as I like, but still a solid pale lager. Good body and palate. Would like to try on tap.

Sampled from the tap at Yazoo BNA. Pours a clear straw yellow with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma has a lot of straw and grains with some grass supporting. Flavor has sweet grains and a bit of straw and grass underlying.

Okay for a pilsener, grainy and semisweet with a corn undertone and moderate apple lager esters adding a modest tartness to the back end. Malts are the slightest bit biscuity and easygoing, while the finish comes across moderately floral and bitter. Nose lacks much punch, corn and grain with the slightest Noble hop tint. Pour’s kinda eh as well, coming out a pale fizzy gold with no head or lace. Feel’s right for the style, sparkly and brisk, and the pint as a whole improves as it warms. Not my favorite pilsener, but you can do a lot worse.

Easy drinking and light like skim milk. Golden pour. Hint of saaz type hops. Crisp finish. Tap at brewpub.
