Sampled @ Ratebeer Belgian Winter Gathering 2016. Nice clear amber color, average to medium sized off-white to beige head. Smell and taste (Dutch) "speculaas", tea, some sort of sweetish touch and a bit herbal and spicy. Not my thing at all. Don’t like it.

Brewed at Scheldebrouwerij, as the label confirms! Medium, dense & fine yellow head, over cola-like red-amber beer. Vinous, liqueurish nose, caramel, even toffee, and specific spices: at a glance, I’d hazard cinnamon, aniseed, allspice. As it is, it’s garam or chai masala. Wry, spicy, and finally dull-sweetish flavour. Whereas the nose suggests a mix of spices (=masala), the flavour sticks at the worst (coriander, if you hadn’t guessed). Not much else, watered-down caramel. .Light body, certainly for 7% ABV. Low carbonation. Meugh.

33 cl bottle @ home. Dark brown color with a red hue. Light beige rocky head. Aroma’s: sweet malts, cinnamon, more spices that are not immediately identifiable. Retronasal it’s sweet malts, lots of spice, I detect cardamom, cinnamon. Flavor is moderate sweet, spicy. Medium bodied. Rather high carbonation. Finishes with a bit spice, light bitterness. More reminiscent of speculaas than chai to me.

Tasting thuis, fles van Maakun. Getverdemme wat flik je me nou. Die hele zak masala kruiden erin laten vallen?! Geen fan van van bock verder. 10+ met griffel voor etiket. Backlog from 2015/11/05.

33cl bottle. Pours mahogany color with a thick white head. This is very spicy, xmasy, coriander, Indian food. Malty backbone is there, but the spices overrides everything. Pleasantly balanced though.

Bottle shared. Slight hazy dark brown with short lasting light beige head. Garam masala, chai tea, black tea, some more spices. This is just spices and tea, I don’t get beer at all. Quite sweet with light bitter finish. Over medium bodied with slick feel. I don’t get this, didn’t enjoy it. It’s not terrible but it’s just completely overpowered by spices, and not in a very good way.

Sample at Gollem Amstelstraat as ’Oedipus Chai Bok’. Clear, golden amber with a thin, frothy, tan head. Sweetish-herbal aroma of tea, honey and caramel. Sweetish-herbal taste of tea, honey and caramel. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice and interesting.
