In spring 2011, Stone bought the farm, literally, taking over 19 acres of fertile Southern California soil where we now grow pristine fruits, vegetables, herbs and more for our Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens restaurants. A taste of our homespun farm-to-tableism is provided in this farmhouse ale. Lemon zest, grains of paradise, lemon thyme and lavender harvested in Southern California fields, including our own at Stone Farms, provide citrus and floral character along with a subtle, tantalizing spice. Thanks to the infusion of fresh West Coast ingredients, this isn’t your everyday saison. It’s our saison—100% Stone.

We made some minor changes to the beer this year, using German pilsner malt to increase the malt flavors. Additionally, we adjusted the proportions of lavender, lemon thyme, grains of paradise, lemon peel and habanero peppers to provide a great blend showcasing each ingredient within the overall balance of the beer.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Short Pump, opened 6/20/14. Pours a slightly hazy orange color with a medium sized fizzy white head. Fair head retention. Aroma of yeast, spice, candied citrus, citrus, tropical fruits, lemongrass, pale malt. The taste is herbal notes, almost medicinal, citrus, tropical fruits, yeast. Medium bodied, slight lingering spice, and that medicinal note is not very welcome.

12oz bottle pours with a clear gold body that supports a near white head. The aroma is full of esters and saison notes and such like apricot and apple fruitiness mixed with big flowery and herbal notes. The taste is big on flowery lavender blended with sweet ester fruitiness as it gets herbal and a bit peppery toward the finish. A saison I guess. Too heavy.

12oz bottle picked up at The Grapevine
Pours cloudy orange with a medium sized head and some lacing. Wow, this smells great, lavender, lemon, spices and coriander. The taste isn’t as good as the aroma but nice. Citrus, perfume, spices and lemon
Nice and refreshing

Bottle from Damon’s in Augusta. Pours a fairly clear medium golden color with a smallish bubbly white head that dissipates rather quickly. The aroma is filled with an overwhelming amont of spice that is barely backed up by some bready lemony malt, The flavor again is over the top spices with hints of bready lemon hints of earth and funk. Medium body mderate carbonation. Too spicy for me, I can see past the spice rack.

A blonde saison with a thin white head. In aroma, pleasant perfume, fruity malt, light coriander, nice. In mouth, a smooth perfumy malt with coriander, Curacao, crisp and refreshing. On tap at Bacon and beer Classic.

Now that’s how you do lavender in a beer (unlike Indeed’s LSD). Pours a light golden yellow, with small head. Aroma is very floral-zesty. The lemon and the lavender are quite apparent. The flavor is peppery, with just a touch of floweriness and some lemon zest, with an acrid finish. Not a huge saison fan, but this one’s not too bad...

12oz bottle. "Saison" - right. Poured a light yellow-orange color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was notes of orange, some grapefruit notes - floral and some earthy funk character to it. Flavor was straw, grain - lemon zest on the finish. Pepper notes. Not very refreshing, which was unfortunate.

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours gold with a white head. Light citrus/floral aromas. Med minus body. Flavor is earthy, malty, herb, citrus, floral. Quite not like expected. Not bad. Quite drinkable. Just a bit of an odd duck.

Bottle pours a hazy yellow beige. Big pillowy white head. Big up front spicy musty aroma. Lots of spicy flavors as well. Some lemon and corriander maybe as well. Peppery even. STONE< even their Saisons are bold and a bit belligerent.
