12 oz bottle. Pretty standard fare for a amber ale - but quite good. Pours a light and slightly hazy amber color with a small white head. Aroma is lightly toasted malts with a hint of hops.

Bottle from Whole Foods Market in Charlottesville. Pours a copper color with a quickly diminishing fizzy head. Malty toffeish aroma. Taste is caramel malt, graininess and a metallic bitterness. Thin body.

Pour is a nice clear tan with a big white head. Aroma is a nice mix of caramel malts and a very clean smelling hop. Flavor is some dark smoky malts and again a bit of earthy hops. The pronounced hops make this amber a little better than the rest. Excellent session beer.

Smells stronger than the abv listed here would indicate. You know, sweeter and volatile. Orangish clear color. Strong ale flavors, bitter, malty and hoppy. Plenty of personality. Oh yes, certainly stronger than 5%! Alcoholic bitter malt finish. IMHO would not be a good session beer. Too much for my girlie taste buds.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy orange-amber color with a small orange-white head. The aroma was sour and tangy vegetal malts. The flavor was tangy, sour and faintly sweet malts with a light fruity hop undertone and a longish vegetal finish. Reminded me more a bock.

bottle - Pours light amber with a thin head. The aroma is mild caramel malt. This medium bodied brew is led by the caramel malt flavors as is typical for the style and has a touch of hops. It’s smooth, decent, and unremarkable.

Bottled. U.S. Beer #13 of 31 for American Beer Month! A very nice beer indeed. Pours an excellent copper color under a thin but persistent head. There’s a smell of malt and hops in harmony, that also brings up a bit of an alcohol smell! The hops are nicely prominent for an English (Fuggles) hop bill. But it’s nice to have a hoppy beer that’s not Centennial and Cascade for a change. Just a nice bitter match to a toasty malt that’s what an amber ale ought to be.

Bottled. Amber colour, average head. Soapy, hoppy grapefruit aroma. Dry with clean mouthfeel. Grapefruit & apricot jam in the finish along with salty licorice and a healthy dose of of bitterness. All focus on the hops. Technical perfection, but lack of soul.

Sampled at From The Vine beer tasting Jul 9th, 2004: Pours a slightly cloudy amber color with a medium off-white head. Thin lacing throughout. The aroma is difficult to detect, light toasted malt and a hint of citrus. Medium-bodied and generally smooth, with malt, caramel and a bit of hops in the flavor. The finish is mildly bitter hops. Unfortunately the beer just doesn’t seem to be trying very hard to distinguish itself in any way. Passable overall but not really worth coming back to.
