Black Angel is a black sour ale aged on 1.5 pounds per gallon of tart Montmorency cherries. Nearly 10 months of bourbon barrel-aging and artful blending reveal a dark, complex and enrapturing sour ale.

Thick if disappearing darker cream-coloured head, irregular, over jet-black beer. Very vinous nose, dark fruit, roast, fruitpie filling (cherry, billberry, plum,...), fruitwine, barrel left-overs. Quite sour, with a retronasal stout/roast aroma. Sour fruit, almost lemony. Fruity, but nothing recognisable any longer. Soured fruitwine, lactic acid. Finish has an acid-mangled version of Black Forest pie. Tart, puckeringly sour, acidthinning, bit oily-film backthroat, medium carbonation. Another one that is too (kettle?)sour. If the nose could be transformed as such into taste, this would be a true classic.

500ml bottle thanks to Steve. Dark brown/ruby pour with a light beige head. Aroma comes across like a tradional Flnders, while the tase introduces some kriek notes. Dark malts with a hint of chcolate add to the overall.

Bottle. Thank you Bursprak! Pours black with a shortlasting offwhite small head. Aromas of cherries, marzipan, vanilla, dry oak, slight funk and leather. Taste is some tart cherries, vanilla, marzipan, dry oak and leather.

Clear dark brown to black beer, creamy beige head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: sourish impression, bit fruity, little roasted, cherries, very funky, wait, this looks like a stout, but clearly doesn't smell like one! :p MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sourish start, very sour, very fruity, acidic, cherries, nice one actually. Not getting much of the black part though. Aftertaste: still very acidic, fruity notes, some vinegar.

SBWF 2018. Deep reddish black with small head. Slightly funky with black cherries, vinegar, some acidity. Well balanced tartness. Good!

Sample at SBWF 2018. Almost black with a small head. Aroma of mild funk, some cherries and chocolate. Similar taste, also bourbon and vanilla. The finish was medium sour.
